Stronger Together Family & Friends Support Group

💙 Reminder: Stronger Together meets this Wednesday, June 3 at 6:30 PM ET via Zoom!

Summer is arriving quickly, and with all the busyness that comes with it, it’s easy to put our own recovery and well-being on the back burner. That’s why connection and support matter so much. We truly are Stronger Together.

Whether you’re a regular attendee or haven’t joined us in a while, this is a wonderful opportunity to connect with others who understand the challenges of loving someone with a substance use disorder and to explore how hope and healing can emerge from those experiences.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder that recovery, wellness, and hope are strengthened by community.

A person may need treatment.
A person may need someone to listen.
A person may need transportation, peer support, or help navigating the system.
A person may simply need to know they still matter.

FAN is here to help connect people with support.

For families and loved ones:

You may notice changes before someone asks for help. Withdrawal, increased substance use, hopelessness, mood changes, or sudden isolation can be signs that someone is struggling.

Start with compassion. Ask directly. Listen without judgment. Offer to help them connect with support.

Supporting someone does not mean you need to have all the answers.

Sometimes support sounds like:

“I believe you.”
“I’m glad you told me.”
“Can I sit with you for a while?”
“Would you like help finding support?”

Mental health and recovery journeys are not meant to be walked alone.

If you need help getting connected to treatment or recovery resources, call the FAN HOPELINE at 833-202-HOPE.

If you or someone else is in crisis, call or text 988.

This May, wear green to show support for mental health awareness.

But awareness is more than a color. It is how we listen. It is how we speak. It is how we respond when someone tells us they are struggling.

Let’s create communities where people feel safe asking for help.

Mental health support is not only for moments of crisis.

It is also for the hard days, the anxious days, the lonely days, the days when someone says, “I’m fine,” but they are barely getting through.

If you are worried about someone, reach out. If you are struggling, you are not a burden.

For emotional distress, mental health concerns, suicidal thoughts, or substance use crisis, call or text 988 anytime.

For help with substance use treatment and recovery support, call FAN HOPELINE: 833-202-HOPE.

Substance use disorder is not a moral failure.

It is a health condition that deserves care, compassion, and support. Stigma keeps people from asking for help. Community helps people take the next step.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, let’s choose words that open doors instead of closing them.

Say: “A person with a substance use disorder.”
Not: “Addict.”

Say: “A person in recovery.”
Not: “Former addict.”

Need help navigating treatment or recovery support? Call the FAN HOPELINE at 833-202-HOPE.
