In March 2007 at an entrepreneurial conference in Silicon Valley, two U-M students realized the lack of entrepreneurial passion within our university compared to those in the Bay Area and decided to do something about it. Wanting to bring the Silicon experience back home, they created MPowered Entrepreneurship, a student-run organization focused on starting and sustaining an entrepreneurial moveme

nt on campus. With over 700 students in its community the first year and fostering a culture of innovation, passion, ex*****on, commitment, creativity, and community, MPowered continues to build on this foundation everyday with a dedicated team that's always up for a challenge.

Last week, MPowered Directors and Exec board had the pleasure of catching up with Ashwin Lalendran, MPowered’s original cofounder and President!

Ashwin, now an investor at Moxxie Ventures and a leader in engineering sensing systems, shared his insights for a strategy session in bridging the club’s founding vision with its future direction.

From alumni engagement to long-term community building, his advice was deeply rooted in what makes MPowered unique. One idea we’re excited to implement: building an alumni database to open doors for mentorship and collaboration!

Grateful for the time, the ideas, and the reminder that MPowered’s impact doesn’t end at graduation 💡
