Hello women of UMich!! The org is starting up again this school year & we’re excited to begin. We will be having our first informational meeting on Tuesday September 13th at 7pm via zoom. The link to join the meeting is in our bio. Until we can gather a regular meeting space and time, meetings will be online. There will be a presentation with information of what the org is all about and opportunities to be on the Executive board. PLEASE don’t hesitate to tell your friends, invite them to the meeting, repost this, DM us with questions, and let anyone of interest know. It’s going to take a team to start up again, so please share this!!

We absolutely loved learning from State Rep. Padma Kuppa, State Representative Christine Greig, & State Representative Kristy Pagan tonight!! Thank you all so much for sharing your wisdom and for helping us kick off our Bridging the Gap Speaker Series! 🤩💗

Tonight I was fortunate enough to be able to participate on a panel for the University of Michigan’s branch of Leading Women of Tomorrow. This organization is a student run, bipartisan initiative that seeks to encourage more young women to consider careers in public service, with the aim of bridging the gender gap among public representatives. These ladies remind me why I ran for office, and I am so grateful they took the time to speak with me and my colleagues Rep. Pagan and Leader Greig tonight.

Happy ! Today we’re celebrating Janet Guthrie! Guthrie graduated from in 1960 with a physics degree but began a racing career in 1963. Guthrie was the first woman to compete in the Daytona 500 (where she was named Top Rookie) and the Indianapolis 500 among many other firsts for women in the field. Guthrie’s courage to break the glass ceiling in race car driving and talent to make such a mark on a male-dominated field serves as inspiration for all of us!

Leading Women of Tomorrow at the University of Michigan would like to acknowledge the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Justice Ginsburg was the second woman ever to serve on the Supreme Court, the first Jewish female justice to serve on the Supreme Court, and a true champion for women. RBG fought to protect the fundamental rights of Americans of all different identities and will continue to serve as an inspiration to so many of us. As the leaders of tomorrow, we will work to capture the courage and tenacity that RBG exhibited in her career and everyday life.

May her memory be a blessing. 💗

Happy !! Today’s focus is Jan BenDor! BenDor is known as the “Founding Mother of the R**e Crisis Center movement in Michigan” for her anti-rape work in Michigan that led to legal reforms, Detroit’s first shelter for battered women, and so much more. She received a Master of Social Work from and is a great role model for women looking to make the world a better place!

Here at LWT, we recognize and value the importance of voting. In an effort to combat voter suppression, we are excited to partner with Amazon Studios to offer complimentary passes to our members for a drive-in screening of All In: The Fight for Democracy! 

In anticipation of the 2020 presidential election, All In: The Fight for Democracy examines voter suppression in the United States. With the perspective and expertise of Stacey Abrams, the documentary offers an insider’s look into laws and barriers to voting that most people don’t even know are threats to their basic rights as citizens of the United States. All In: The Fight for Democracy will open in select theaters on Wednesday, September 9th and will be available on Amazon Prime Video () on September 18th.
 
The complimentary drive-in screening will be at the Ford Wyoming Drive-In Theater in Dearborn, Michigan (10400 Ford Rd, Dearborn, MI, 48126) at around 8:45 pm EST/dusk on September 9th, 2020. The film will start at dusk, so 8:45 pm EST is just an estimate. Each pass is good for one car, and each car will be receiving a swag box of goodies relating to the film as well.
