We don't want to let May end without a reminder that It's Always Okay to Ask for Help!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, for which goals include reducing stigma and encouraging a holistic approach to physical and mental health.

Binc helps bookstore and comic shop staff and owners across the U.S. access mental health services. If you think you'd benefit from short term mental health support, reach out to Binc about our Mental Health Wellness program. The program offers free and confidential access to six sessions over six months with a professional therapist who is assigned according to your individual preferences and needs. Learn more and apply via the Binc website.

30 Years of Book People Caring for Book People

Jordan Adams first learned about Binc from someone looking to host an event at Ada’s Books & Cafe in Seattle, Washington, where he’s worked for more than eight years. He shared the information with colleagues, never thinking a few years later that he would be in need.

A terrible car accident left him bedridden for six weeks and out of work at both of his jobs, depressed that he couldn’t pick up his young child.

“At Binc it’s not just about cutting a check,” Jordan said. “It felt like someone was looking out for me.”

The two months of rent he received “just saved the day and gave me time to get back to work.”

“I’ll never stop spreading the word about Binc and everything they do. They keep booksellers like me in vibrant energized spaces like Ada’s where people seek knowledge and come to find their people, their community.”

The Book Industry Charitable Foundation is celebrating 30 years of being the essential safety net for book and comic store employees, owners, and their stores in 2026. Throughout this year, we’ll introduce you to recipients of emergency financial assistance or professional development opportunities. Have you received support from Binc? Please consider sharing your story. (Link in comments.)
