*ACTION ITEMS FOR UMICH*
President Ono is requesting feedback on a draft anti-protest policy after Pro-Palestinian protestors disrupted the end of the Honors Convocation on Sunday, March 24, 2024. This draft policy is an egregious assault on students’ right to protest and to free speech and endangers all students advocating for Palestine and protesting on campus.

The 1970 Black Action Movement, today acknowledged by U-M as “arguably the most influential in shaping the university’s diversity efforts and policies today,” featured a disruption of the Honors Convocation. Published March 21, 1970, on front page of the Michigan Daily.
We CATEGORICALLY CONDEMN the current administration’s efforts to silence Pro-Palestinian protestors. Ono’s proposed draft policy is an affront to the University’s history of student protestors. Pro-Palestinian protestors have been peacefully exercising their rights on campus, despite facing aggressive escalation from police and university administration. Central administration and UM Donors were unhappy about “disruptions” during the 70s protests, just as they are unhappy now. Perhaps it’s time to take a page out of the BAM protest playbook and bring back the stinkbombs.
