Legendary NFL player and coach Mike Ditka, who led the Chicago Bears to victory in Super Bowl XX, has died. Ditka was a lifelong Catholic and member of the Knights of Columbus. In a 2018 interview, he reflected on his faith:

“I am so grateful for the Roman Catholic faith with which I was raised…my mother was a convert to Catholicism, and it’s beautiful what she gave me, in the faith. I believe every bit that the church teaches. Confession matters. Communion matters.”

He had 100 reasons to never become Catholic.

But instead of judging the Church from the outside, he started asking questions.

He studied. He searched. He challenged what he thought he knew.

And the more he discovered, the harder it became to ignore the truth.

Sometimes conversion begins with one honest question:

“What if I was wrong?”

Never be afraid to seek the truth.

Diane Leoni grew up in an Eastern Orthodox family, and as a young adult she began to encounter the Blessed Mother and developed a devotion to the Rosary.

And through her prayers, Mary prepared her for the unique crosses and challenges her family would face.

Today’s Gospel features a parable about prayer.

Jesus tells of a man whose friend arrives late at night, and persistently knocks until the man gives him some bread.

Prayer emerges from the relationship between our Heavenly Father and His beloved children who have the extraordinary privilege of being able to approach him with complete confidence.

We can trust him to be faithful to us.

Marcus has more in today's commentary.
