Univ of Michigan HHC Midwest Summit - Freeway & Binary Star Don’t fall into the trap of assuming that Hip Hop Congress means drugs, guns, and scantily clad women.

Hip Hop Congress will host its 7th Annual Midwest Summit (www.hhcmidwest.com): “Hip Hop and Youth Education” sponsored by the Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs at University of Michigan – Ann Arbor from February 4th to 5th, 2011. This year’s Summit partners with the “Bring It Back Tour” (www.bringitbacktour.com) and youth education and college access programs like University of Michigan’s Off

ice of Multicultural Academic Initiative’s Gear UP!, the Neutral Zone and the Rising Scholars program in the Ann Arbor Public Schools to encourage and connect Hip Hop culture with youth education and empowerment . Hip Hop Congress advocates a broader vision of Hip Hop culture than the stereotypes often seen on TV and Radio. Hip Hop Congress (HHC) provides the Hip Hop Generation and the Post Hip Hop Generation with the tools, resources and opportunities to make social, economic and political change on a local, regional, national and international level. Drawn from evolving Black cultural expression, the Summit will connect this modern multicultural phenomenon to U of M’s celebration of Black History Month by also hosting the Black History 101 Mobile Museum. Activities will include concerts featuring renowned Hip Hop artists as well as workshops, panels and discussion on Hip Hop Youth empowerment and education and Women in Hip Hop. Scheduled guests include renowned Hip Hop artists Freeway, Binary Star, Invincible+Wajeed, Magestic Legend, Buff 1, The ReMINDers and more. There will also be workshops teaching Graffiti Art, Breakdancing, DJ’ing, and MC’ing. The Summit will be attended by interested parties from throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, California, New York, Canada and more.
