Arise Mentorship Program

Arise Mentorship Program Arise is a student organization at UM through MESA focused on peer mentorship specifically designed to engage those who identify as South Asian.

Arise is a peer mentorship program for first-year students that strives to create a platform for dialogue on the intersection of social justice and culture. Through dialogues and more intimate settings, the program hopes to create a safe space for students to grow and improve their experience at the University, while empowering individuals to develop an awareness and a passion for activism.

Core Team Member: A leadership position, in which you will help organize events and help facilitate mentor and mentee pairings throughout the year. Application link: tinyurl.com/ARISEcoreteamapp

Arise is a student organization focusing on peer mentoring for first-year students. Arise is open to all students at the University of Michigan who are interested in issues that affect the South Asian community. Essentially, Arise is a community of students who want to support each other and build community specific to the South Asian student experience. The program hopes to create a safe space for students to grow, be empowered, and to develop an understanding of issues in the South Asian community.

What are the program's benefits?

Each incoming student is paired with an upperclass student based on commonalities and factors such as identity, major, school, hometown, and other interests
Mentors help Mentees through their first year and help them with their transition to campus and college life
Leadership training and professional development opportunities throughout the year
Monthly events that are focused on professional, social, and personal growth
Social and community building events such a trip to the cider mill and movie nights
Access to the support and resources of the Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs

Program Expectations:

Attend Arise program Kickoff
Meet in person your with your mentor face to face a minimum of one (1) hour per month and to communicate with them on a weekly basis through email, text, and social media
Attend mandatory Arise programs--one (1) program per month
Complete program evaluations (i.e. surveys, mid-semester evaluations, video testimonials, etc.)

Hello ARISE community members and supporters,


We hope your summer has been a relaxing one. It's nearing the beginning of the semester and we need your help! We would love to have your help in informing incoming students about our mentorship opportunities. Specifically, we offer student coordinated peer mentorship programs to help students get connected to campus, receive support & resources to ensure your success while here at UofM. Participation in these programs are open to all students regardless of your race/ethnicity.

We offer 3 unique mentoring programs:

Assisting Latinos to Maximize Achievement (ALMA)
Support for Incoming Black Students (SIBS)
Arise Mentorship Program - South Asian focused mentorship

We will be gathering on July 25th from 4:00-8:00, August 9th from 4:00-8:00 and August 17th from 4:00-8:00. We'll start off with a mini training session to go over the calling script, calls and break for some pizza! Please fill out the form below and we'll reach out to you with the details. If you're not able to make it at exactly at 4:00, there will be an advisor available to help you go over the script. Thank you! Oh yes we will feed you pizza and soda

Hello Arise and friends of Arise we are excited to be recruiting individuals to join our program for the 2017-18 year. Applications are open for both Arise Core Team as well as for Mentors!

Apply to join the Arise Core Team:
Upperclassmen mentors as well as individuals who would like to join leadership on the core team.
