What a weekend! What an honor! I have known Kwesi and his mother Rosette and his brothers since he was in kindergarten. This weekend he started his journey as a student of higher education at Bard College in Annadale on the Hudson New York. We drove there on Thursday, moved him in Friday, shopped and explored the Albany New York area Saturday and drove back to Ann Arbor Sunday. Thank you Justin and Jaden who were also on the trip for all the help with everything! ❤️💯

On Monday, Peace campers, their families, staff, and volunteers gathered for our End of Summer Celebration!

An annual tradition at Peace, this event gives our campers the opportunity to show off what they've been working on over the past 6 weeks. Our youngest campers shared what they learned in Explorers, Comic Book and Future Builders clubs (just to name a few). Middle school students in Leadership Development Camp presented their final projects on AI, and rising 9th graders shared their favorite parts of being Counselors in Training. The Dance Club's Jackson 5 performance and music from Peace’s Drumline kept the crowd entertained between presentations!

Thanks to all the families and friends who came out to celebrate with us...and a huge shout-out to everyone who helped make this another fun and memorable summer for our 140+ Peace campers!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Can you believe that we're only a month away from the start of the new school year? Every summer, the average student loses 17-34% of what they learned the prior year. To help prepare our students for a successful school year, Peace is providing a 2-week Academic Bridge Camp (ABC) to a select group of our kids. Peace staff and tutors will provide individualized academic support to our young students, with a focus on literacy, reading comprehension, and basic math skills.

We’re still looking for a few more volunteers to work one-on-one with a child -or a small group of children. Tutors will help students maintain and increase academic skills using workbook activities, academic games, reading practice, and literacy skill building. ABC runs Monday through Thursday, August 10-13 AND August 17-20, from 10AM to Noon.

A volunteer orientation will take place at Peace on Tuesday, August 4 at 11AM.

Did you know that research shows young students can lose up to 20% of their reading skills over the summer, often falling behind by one to three months if they don't practice? At Peace's Summer Camps we help reduce the "summer slide" by providing daily opportunities for our kids to practice their reading and math skills. Our book bins and math sheets follow Peace campers on their daily adventures -- whether they're at Silver Lake, a local park, or on the Peace bus when they travel to/from field trips.
