U-M Injury Prevention Center

U-M Injury Prevention Center A CDC-designated Injury Control Research Center located at the University of Michigan. Injury is the leading cause of death for people aged 1 to 44 years.

Each year, more than 50 million people are injured seriously enough to require medical treatment in the US. BUT nearly all injuries are predictable or preventable. The University of Michigan Injury Prevention Center conducts extensive research on injury prevention, supports education and training in the field, and reaches out to share evidence-based findings. Our aim is to reduce human injury by providing evidence-based information that can shape both policy and individual behavior.

1 in 3 children with a concussion never get the care they need. For some families, the barrier is not knowing where to start.

Concussion Navigator is a free tool helping Michigan families learn what to do after a concussion, find care nearby, and track symptoms over time. If you work with families in your community, this resource belongs in their hands.

Share it with the families you support.

The weather is getting warmer, and here in the Great Lakes State, that means spending more time around lakes and pools!

It's important to supervise young children in the water. At group gatherings, it can be easy to assume that someone else is watching kids in the water. Water watcher tags can serve as an easy reminder that the person wearing the tag is responsible for supervising kids.

In recognition of National Water Safety Month in May, you can download and print water watcher tags on our website: https://injurycenter.umich.edu/resource/water-watcher-tag/

When a child gets a concussion, the injury is only part of the challenge.
Families are often left wondering what symptoms to watch for, when to seek care, and when it's safe to return to school or sports.

Concussion Navigator, developed in partnership by NASHIA, the University of Michigan, and the Brain Injury Association of Michigan, brings those answers together in one place.

From recognizing possible concussion symptoms to tracking recovery and finding care nearby, it helps Michigan families navigate the path forward with more confidence.

Share this resource so families know where to turn after a head injury.
