Helping others for 50 years

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul was founded in 1833 by a group of Catholic laity. The Society seeks to follow the model of Saint Vincent de Paul, the founder of modern social work, through compassionate outreach to those in greatest need.

Since 1968 our conference of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul has been turning donations into help and hope for the vulnerable in the greater Ann Arbor community. Located in the historic Anson Brown Building, our thrift store has been a local landmark for half a century. Continuing the mission of our society’s founder, Frederic Ozanam, our chapter provides services to those need. Through generous donors, dedicated volunteers, and loyal customers, our store generates the much needed funds for our work.

After a catastrophic fire that gutted our store in early May 2017, we rebuilt and updated the interior of our store inside the oldest commerical structure in Ann Arbor. Donors continued to support us throughout the construction and in late May this year, we reopened for business. Out of the ashes, our store has returned, continuing to provide for our charitable mission.

Since October 2017, we have provided $60,000 to fulfill the unmet needs of those who need us most. Volunteers in our office and homevisit teams take on the bulk of our charitable outreach, while our store provides the capital. Proceeds go towards assisting those in needing basic necessities, emergency housing, and preventing homelessness. Your purchases, donations, recycled clothing, and time help us to help others.
