Yesterday, August 18, we completely sold out of the August 7th edition! 🎉 Congratulations to all Groundcover vendors for beating our 2026 sales record... with 3 days to spare.

To make sure all vendors can continue business, we ordered the August 21st edition a day early.

We only sold out completely at the Groundcover office — some vendors still have copies to sell to customers like you!
Get the August 7th from a vendor while you still can.

In our most recent edition Mike Jones reports on the tentative contract agreement between University of Michigan Professional Nurse Council (a local union of the ) and University of Michigan Health.

The evening of July 24, votes were counted and it was announced that UMPNC ratified the three year agreement with 94% approval.

"U of M nurses approved this contract in a landslide because they know it is so good that it sets the standard for the rest of the state," said Kara Ayotte, RN, president of MNA-UMPNC. "We're proud to have negotiated such strong wage increases, better staffing ratios, improved workplace violence protections, and so much more. This contract shows what union nurses can achieve when we stick together and fight for what's best for nurses and patients."

On Wednesday 26 Groundcover vendors, writers, board members and staff boarded a party bus to drive to Mexicantown on a very important mission.

We toured the El Central Hispanic News office, heard from Martina Guzman and Robert Dewaelsche about building and sustaining a community newsroom; on training journalists with a focus on race and equity; on preserving heritage, culture, and democracy with bilingual reporting and publishing.

Then, two blocks down, we enjoyed lunch and conversation at Vamonos! with representatives from Planet Detroit, Eastern Michigan College of Journalism, Bridge Detroit and El Central.

Thank you to the Washtenaw Board of Commissioners and staff for funding this inspiring gathering!
