Last week Ann Arbor Housing Commission held a groundbreaking ceremony for its newest affordable housing development, The Adeline. Named after the late Black business owner Adeline Thompson, this new building in downtown Ann Arbor will offer a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments for households with up to 80% of the area median income. About one-third of the units will be for low-income households with up to 30% of the area median income. The project is expected to be completed in 2028.

“At a time when Ann Arbor could not, or would not, offer the Black community basic trust, unconditional love and respect, my grandparents created a sanctuary on Detroit Street,” Angela Davis said.

🏠 You're invited! WHA's Shared Housing Community Meeting, October 1 at Ypsilanti District Library Superior Branch

We've listened, and we're switching things up. A lot of those interested in WHA's Shared Housing Program have told us they want more time to talk with each other directly, so we're planning a Community Meeting that will include real community discussion time between home providers and home seekers, not just formal introductions.

Of course, we'll still set aside time for one-on-one introductions for anyone who's ready to meet as a possible match.

If you're just exploring the program or want to learn more before deciding about participating, this Community Meeting is for you too!
