I am delighted to share with you that I am joining the Eisenhower Institute at Gettysburg College (EI) as a Senior Fellow, to lead the organizations’ work on international economy-building and democracy strengthening.
Founded forty years ago by colleagues and confidants of the late President Dwight D. Eisenhower as the embodiment of his legacy of leadership and public policy, as a premier locus for research, discussion, international public policy leadership, and facilitation of top-level dialogue among international policymakers, the EI will afford a credible and prestigious platform to continue, enhance, and expand the impactful international partnerships and initiatives we have created together.
These include the transatlantic Transforming Industrial Heartlands Initiative, partnerships to promote and implement allyshoring, along with international collaborations to help democracies maintain global innovation and economic leadership .
In opening the doors of this new center for my work, we will after twelve great years, close the virtual doors on the Michigan Economic Center. I will remain a Michigan resident with my worldview, work, and feet firmly grounded in the heartland, but with a growing family of international engagements. I will continue to serve as a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, and continue the strong working partnerships with so many of you, and so many of the organizations, institutions, and agents of change committed to building new economic opportunity and strengthening the health of our democracies and our alliances.
Most Sincerely,
John Austin
