Sorry to report, Thunder Families, that due to lightning in the area Fall Ball practice is cancelled tonight. We really were hoping for some clearer skies today and a different kind of Thunder play!

We are planning on practice for Thursday (Boys JV/HS) and Saturday for all boys & girls all ages.

Today is the day! Fall ball is officially kicking off!

We have our eyes on the weather for tonight, which has the potential for thunderstorms around 7 p.m. Gear pick up will still be available starting shortly after 5 p.m. and practice will still start at 6 p.m.

The Prairie Trail Elementary School fields do not have any public shelter spaces. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of our players, all players must have a driver remain at the school for the duration of practice tonight. Every player needs a vehicle in which to shelter should lightning begin and we have to end early due to weather. There is plenty of parking in both the school and Cascade Falls parking lots.

One consistent goal of the Ankeny Thunder Lacrosse Club is to ensure the safety of our players, coaches, and families. With that in mind, given the temperatures and heat indices forecasted for this week, the Thunder Board has decided to push the start of Fall Ball back one week to September 8.

We’re excited to welcome Coach Britt Mitchell to Ankeny Thunder Lacrosse!

Ankeny Thunder Lacrosse is excited to announce Britt Mitchell as the new Head Coach of our Varsity Boys program.

Britt brings a wealth of experience to Ankeny, with a background spanning youth, club and collegiate lacrosse, as well as statewide leadership with the Iowa Lacrosse Association. He has served as Head Coach and College Recruiting Coordinator for Iowa Central Elite Lacrosse Club, Head Coach of the Iowa State University Men’s Club Lacrosse Team, and Vice President of the Iowa Lacrosse Association.

As an educator and longtime advocate for the growth of lacrosse in Iowa, Britt brings a strong focus on player development, team culture and helping young athletes grow both on and off the field.

We’re excited for him to get started, meet our players and families, and build on the strong foundation of Thunder Boys Lacrosse.

Let’s see the unboxed look! Thanks to everyone’s generous donations we were able to purchase 12 new cages with black nets - an improvement to help better see goals during games! We also have a fresh batch of balls and new ball bags for every team, and new backstop nets for the city fields.

All of this equipment will be put into rotation during fall ball (registrations happening now!!) so we hope they help our returning and new players be the best they can be!

🥍🚨Fall Ball registration is now open!! 🙌🏻

Fall ball is a great chance to sharpen skills and build fundamentals for all ages! Practices go throughout September and early October and culminate in a local “play day” tournament.

This is also a great time for new players to come try the game without the commitment to a full season of play.

Practices are held at Prairie Trail Elementary.
