The Sparkle Run

The Sparkle Run The Sparkle Run is a family-friendly 5k walk/run that raises money for organizations that support families of children with life-threatening illnesses.

Erin Moomey is the inspiration behind The Sparkle Run. She was a daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin and a friend to everyone. She was thoughtful, funny, caring and had a beautiful smile. She was a 5th grade student, a dancer, and played both soccer and basketball. She loved her dog, Molly and her goldfish, Chloe. She was one awesome kid! Erin was diagnosed with leukemia when she was 10 years

old. She never complained or asked why me. She also never lost her sense of humor or her passion to live life. She passed away on October 29, 2013 and is missed beyond words. The Sparkle Run was organized in 2014 as an event where funds can be raised and given back to those affected by childhood cancer within our community. We want to make a difference in the lives of others in order to honor Erin.

We did it! We raised $50,000 this year! The Sparkle Run cannot thank ALL of you enough for your part in helping us meet this milestone!

Thanks to our sponsors, donors, participants, and silent auction bidders, we were able to donate $25,000 EACH to the Blank Children's Hospital Facility Dog Program and to the American Cancer Society-PAWS Program at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. Both hospitals will be able to have on-site dedicated therapy dogs that will be able to provide comfort and support to more patients. We can't wait to meet these new members of the hospital staff!

Who's ready to run? Or walk? Or cheer on the runners and walkers?
We are!

We have tried twice to send an email to all participants through the registration site and are encountering difficulties. Hopefully that will be resolved today, and we will get an email out to you, but even if we can't, here is everything you need to know!

The event is tomorrow, Sunday, May 3, at the DMACC-Ankeny campus. Shirt/packet pick-up starts at 1pm which is different from past years. If you need to pick up your shirt early or will not be able to pick it up at the run, please contact us to arrange a time to get it.

The event takes place on the east end of Parking Lot L. You will see our tents and big orange arch. Please park wherever you like and walk on over to get your shirts. We will also have gourmet cupcakes, Sparkle Run merch, some of the silent auction items as well as some therapy dogs!

We will have water and snacks at the end of the run. There will NOT be water on the course. Please plan to carry your own water if you think you will need it during the run.

The weather looks to be great tomorrow! Remember to wear sunscreen!
