💙 Last week, our Rotary Club had the privilege of welcoming Jim Blessman from Blessman International as our guest speaker.

Jim shared the inspiring story of Blessman International’s mission to serve communities in South Africa through sustainable initiatives focused on education, nutrition, clean water, and community development. His passion for creating lasting change and empowering future generations was evident throughout his presentation.

We were reminded of the profound impact that service, compassion, and partnership can have on communities around the world. Thank you, Jim, for sharing your experiences and for the incredible work you and your team continue to do.

💙 We recently heard from our own Rotarian, Dr. Peter O'Tool of The Wellness Way Ankeny. Peter shared insights on his approach to whole-body wellness and helping individuals uncover the root causes of health challenges through personalized care. Thank you, Peter, for sharing your expertise and for your commitment to improving the health and well-being of our community! 💙

💙 The Rotary Club of Ankeny was pleased to recently welcome our own, Connie Fiscus, as our featured speaker. Connie shared an engaging and insightful presentation on “The Science Behind Happiness.”

Drawing on research from psychology and neuroscience, she explored the factors that contribute to lasting happiness and well-being. Members learned how gratitude, meaningful relationships, purpose, physical activity, and positive habits can have a measurable impact on our happiness and overall quality of life. Her message was a great reminder that happiness is not just a feeling—it’s something we can intentionally cultivate through our actions and mindset.

Thank you, Connie, for sharing your knowledge and inspiring us to pursue healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives! 💙

🌹 In Memory of Kathy Sibbel 🌹 beloved Rotarian and friend. She poured her amazing energy, personality, and ❤️ for children and her community into her preschool, community, church, and service organizations for Ankeny during her 39-plus years living there. Her exceptional caring and helping others attitude earned her recognition as Ankeny Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 2017. She embodied the true spirit of “Service Above Self” and was dedicated both to RYLA, the Rotary Youth Leadership, the Rotary Youth Student Exchange Program & Rotary Literacy Initiative Projects over the years. She inspired all of us with her dedication and joyful spirit. Kathy’s legacy of kindness, leadership, and service will live on in our club and in the community she loved so dearly. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her.

Please keep Kathy’s husband, Rick, family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. 💙 Rest in peace, Kathy. Your Rotary family is forever grateful.

💙 The Rotary Club of Ankeny had the privilege of hearing from Roscoe Jones Jr., Dean of Drake University Law School. Dean Jones shared his remarkable journey from public service and civil rights advocacy to leading one of the nation’s oldest law schools. Before coming to Drake, he served in senior roles with the U.S. Department of Justice, on Capitol Hill, and as a partner at Gibson Dunn in Washington, D.C.

What stood out most was his passion for preparing future lawyers to “promote justice, serve their communities, and uphold ethics and professionalism.” He emphasized the importance of leadership, civility, and practical experience in legal education — values that strongly align with Rotary’s commitment to service above self.

Dean Jones also highlighted his vision for the future of legal education is both inspiring and grounded in public service. Thank you to Dean Jones for an engaging and thought-provoking presentation, and to everyone who attended. 💙

💙 Great presentation at the recent meeting with the President & Board Secretary, Joe Murphy, as he shared insights on Iowa’s economic growth, workforce trends, and opportunities shaping our state’s future.

The organization is comprised of CEOs and top executives from 21 of the largest employers in Iowa. The Iowa Business Council serves as a catalyst to elevate Iowa’s long-term economic vitality through global thought leadership, research, and advocacy.
