Taboo OCD themes are obsessions that are generally considered to be socially unacceptable or immoral. The content of these themes can cause the sufferer intense distress, often compounded by feelings of guilt and shame. Cognitive therapy seeks to address cognitive distortions and irrational beliefs maintaining negative emotions and unhelpful behaviors. It can be a helpful addition to OCD treatment but can easily turn into opportunities for reassurance, so careful use is needed when using it to treat OCD.
