In our feels as we prep gift bags for our GSAs this week. 🥹 We are including more of those sweet notes that YOU ALL made at our Ankeny Pride festival last June. (Too many to picture here.) We are so grateful our kids have a community of support here in Ankeny and thrilled to share that thanks to some INCREDIBLY generous donors this week, we raised $765 😲 which is more than enough to cover last weekend’s 🌈 shenanigans! Our board can’t wait to discuss how to give it back to our q***r youth. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

Aren’t these messages just perfect? 📝 (We did pull the Cheeto puff one, but had to share!)

Well, since we made the “news” today because certain pages are obsessed with spreading gay news, what can we say 💅… it seems like a wonderful time to remind our community that student clubs are federally protected and their sponsors are saints for volunteering their free time to supervise them. Notice we said volunteering, because they are not compensated for these positions. We are beyond grateful that ACSD has 9 staff members (plus the staff who generously sub in as needed) who regularly support our q***r youth and their allies in the 6 GSA clubs in our public schools. Their willingness to stand up, show up, and put a target on their own backs helps shield students from hate and reminds them that they are seen, valued, and worthy of belonging. Thank you for being there for our kids. 💜🏳️‍🌈

And yes, we recently co-hosted a free retreat for students in those clubs, which was incredible! If you feel compelled to spread some love and help offset the $750 it cost to run that event, feel free to donate at Ankenypride.org. And while you are at it, be sure to give some love to the Iowa Q***r Student Alliance! IowaQSA’s Executive Director is Ankeny’s own, Jemma Bullock, and they co-hosted the retreat with us! https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=NG5ZQQEVEJX4Y
