Camp Elliott Barker is located in the beautiful Moreno Valley, at the base of Palo Flechado Pass, 26 miles east of Taos, New Mexico. The Carson National Forest, Angel Fire Resort, and the village of Angel Fire are the camp’s nearby neighbors. Camp Elliott Barker is a high-altitude retreat, with elevations ranging from 8,680 feet on the western edge to 8,350 feet on the eastern meadows. One of the

oldest log homes in the Moreno Valley stands on camp property and is still used today as the camp ranger’s residence. The oldest working bard in the entire valley is also on site and is used to house horses year round. In December of 1962, a tract of 536 acres of land was purchased by the Sangre de Cristo Girl Scout Council. The site had been located by a search committee headed by Elliott Barker, a renowned New Mexico conversationalist. The land was purchased using proceeds from Girl Scout cookie sales. In 1963, the camp opened as “Girl Scout Camp near Eagle Nest”. It wasn’t until 1975 that the camp received a real name, Camp Elliott Barker.

With the warm weather it has made me start thinking about summer. I can't wait to be outside more in the fresh air and hearing the laughter of summer again. We have some great outdoor adventures planned for both families and troops this summer.
What are you looking forward to this summer?

The cookies are here! I know you all are excited, so get your cookies now. Find a dealer and secure your cookies! Otherwise booth sales begin Feb. 20th, so buy from a girl outside your favorite shopping establishment. Hold your comments and opinions to yourself, theses girls do not need to hear them. Support them if you want, just don't be mean! Now go get your cookies. My favorite is peanut butter patties and Peanut butter sandwich. Seeing a trend :)

I am a big believer that fear is not necessarily a bad thing. Feeling fear makes us know we might be in a dangerous situation. Sometimes these fears are physical, sometimes they are emotional and sometimes they are simply mental. Most of the time they are the later, our brain is a power part of our body. It can be spoiled or it can be an obedient child. The older I get, the more I want to challenge myself to push through fear and not allow it to interfere with my life, thus training my brain to be the obedient child.
This week I got thinking that if I knew I had only a few days left here, would I have regret of things I didn't do out of fear. I would see this all the time at camp, kids that really wanted to do something, but wouldn't because of fear, the kids that pushed through this fear, you would see so much growth, it was amazing, like they could conquer the world at that moment (this is my aha moment), the kids that just couldn't push past that fear, you would see the struggle and pain they were feeling, and you wanted to just hold them and tell them you can do this.
Try new things, push past that fear! You may find that rush will be addicting!
Have a good week!

My favorite time of the year to go hiking is during the fall when all the leaves are turning and the air is crisp and cool. You can often catch the animals hurrying about getting ready for winter. Get out and explore more. Turn off, unplug and capture the moments in real time.
