Today, Huntington County Emergency Management mourns the loss of Terry Lynn Shenefield, who passed away Saturday, August 22, surrounded by his loving family.

Terry dedicated many years of service to Huntington County Emergency Management and was a true example of what it means to serve your community. His commitment to public safety extended well beyond EMA, as he also served as a volunteer firefighter for more than 25 years in Andrews, Huntington County, and York, Pennsylvania.

Terry’s life was defined by service, dedication, and a willingness to help others. Those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him will remember not only his years of service, but the person he was and the impact he had on those around him.

On behalf of Huntington County Emergency Management, we extend our deepest condolences to Terry’s wife, Berniece, his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Thank you, Terry, for your service to our community. Your dedication will not be forgotten.

Rest easy, Terry. We’ll take it from here. 🇺🇸

SCHOOL BUS STOPPING REMINDER 🛑

As students return to school, the Huntington County Sheriff’s Office reminds all motorists to know Indiana’s school bus stopping laws.

When a school bus stops with its RED FLASHING LIGHTS activated and STOP ARM extended:

- Two-Lane Roadways
All motorists traveling in both directions MUST STOP.

- Multi-Lane Roadways with NO Barrier
All motorists traveling in both directions MUST STOP.

- Multi-Lane Roadways with a Grassy or Concrete Barrier
Only motorists traveling behind the school bus are required to stop. Vehicles traveling in the opposite direction are NOT required to stop.

⚠️ NEVER pass a school bus when its red lights are flashing and stop arm is extended. Passing a stopped school bus under these circumstances is a violation of Indiana traffic law and can put children in serious danger.

Please slow down, pay attention, and give school buses plenty of room. One moment of impatience can have lifelong consequences.
