🚨 West Texas & New Mexico. This directly impacts us.

A new federal environmental review U.S. Department of Energy has been released, tied to the expansion of plutonium pit production at Los Alamos.

That may sound far away, but the consequences aren’t.

This region has already been identified as a target for nuclear waste storage and transport. Increased production upstream means more waste, more risk, and more pressure on places like ours to absorb it.

And right now…
💬 They’re asking for public comment.

This is a moment where communities like ours can:
✔️ Push back on becoming a long-term dumping ground
✔️ Demand transparency around waste and transport
✔️ Protect our land, water, and future

We’ve said it before, and we’ll keep saying it—
West Texas is not a sacrifice zone.

If we don’t speak up, decisions get made for us.

🚨 A New Mexico entity is preparing to sue its own state over nuclear waste.

On April 1, the Eddy-Lea Energy Alliance is considering legal action against the State of New Mexico to push forward nuclear waste storage.

Let that sink in.

👉 Local leadership vs. state leadership
👉 Litigation instead of community consent
👉 The Permian Basin caught in the middle

This isn’t just politics... it’s precedent.

If this moves forward, it could open the door to forcing nuclear waste projects onto regions without true state or community approval.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again:

🛑 The Permian Basin is not a dumping ground.
🛑 Consent is not optional.
🛑 “Interim” should never mean permanent.

This affects landowners, families, energy workers, and future generations across Texas and New Mexico.

We’re watching closely—and you should be too.

👉 Follow along as this unfolds. The outcome of this meeting could shape the future of nuclear waste policy in the U.S.

🚨 Safety reviews halted at Japanese nuclear plants after oversight failures

This isn’t hypothetical. This is what happens when regulators lose credibility and safety becomes secondary to speed.

When oversight breaks down, communities pay the price — not corporations, not agencies, not decision-makers.

West Texas deserves better than “trust us.”
We deserve transparency, accountability, and consent — before irreversible decisions are made.

🚨 Breaking News: Holtec has terminated its New Mexico nuclear waste site plan.

This victory was made possible by the voices of citizens, the leadership of state officials, and the many resolutions of opposition passed by cities and counties. Coalition power worked!

Now is the time to stay organized, expand our coalition, and ensure our leaders know: the Basin will not be a dumping ground for nuclear waste.

When the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission gets to decide whether a case may proceed, it brought that case to a close. Texas’ Governor, Attorney General, Protect the Basin, and Fasken are all very disappointed that WCS and the feds put us through all of this and insist on getting their federal license to indefinitely store the nation’s spent nuclear fuel in Andrews. No evidence was ever heard by the Court, but we all know that garbage has no business in Andrews, and they know we don’t want it here . . . EVER. Those New Yorkers that own WCS don’t know Texans. TEXANS NEVER QUIT. IT’S NOT OVER.

The Permian Basin isn’t just a patch of West Texas & New Mexico—it’s the beating heart of America’s energy engine.

📍 It produces nearly 40% of our domestic oil, powers our economy, and helps keep us independent from foreign energy powers.
📍 It fuels jobs, families, and national security.
📍 It’s not the place for nuclear waste.

Yet, the NRC pushed through de facto permanent storage plans in this region—without consent, and without fully considering the risk.

💥 One accident. One containment breach. One irreversible mistake.
And the backbone of our energy independence is gone.

They’ll say “Sorry.” But that won’t undo radioactive soil, poisoned aquifers, or an economic collapse.

This is short-sighted. This is reckless. This is avoidable.

📢 Stand up for the Permian. Stand up for our future.
