Our Story
1. Yellow Jersey Challenge© participants must ride a declared percentage of each days Tour de France mileage. The purpose of the Yellow Jersey Challenge© is to improve individual health and wellness while getting an idea of what it really takes to ride just a percentage of the world’s greatest multi-stage race! 2. To participate, each person must sign-up for the 2019 Yellow Jersey Challenge club on Strava. For directions on how to do so please email us at: [email protected] 3. After signing up on Strava, you must e-mail your age as of July 5th (the day before the start of this year’s Challenge) and the percentage of TdF mileage that you are setting as your daily goal to: [email protected]. Participants will be grouped based on their declared goal percentage and bragging rights will be determined based upon overall all mileage within their age group and mileage goals in the following ranges: Mileage Percentage Groups Age Groups 5-9% 10-20 10-19% 21-40 20-29% 41-60 30-39% 61+ 40%+ 4. Yellow Jersey Challenge© Participants must ride at least their declared percentage of each days Tour de France mileage. For example, this year, the Tour is riding approximately 2,145 miles. Stage 1 is a 119 mile route. In order to be eligible for the Stage 1 Win, a participant who had declared they would ride at least 10% would need to ride (and be tracked on Strava as doing so) at least 11.9 miles on that day (July 6). If there is a mileage tie then the rider with the fastest time will be declared the winner for that stage. On time trial days, participants will still need to ride their declared goal percentage. 5. A participant who fails to meet their daily percentage goal on more than two occasions will be dropped from the general classification category and lose their eligibility to win it all! However, we realize that life can sometimes get between us and our bikes, and since the goal is to promote health and fitness, riders will still be eligible for daily stage wins! o If an individual has multiple rides on the same day, their cumulative mileage for those rides will be used. 6. On Monday, July 29, 2019 the “winners” of the Yellow Jersey Challenge will be determined for each percentage category and age group within those categories. The “winners” receive bragging rights only. 7. All participants are responsible for ensuring that their Strava app is turned on before each ride and that their daily combined mileage meets their declared goal. There is no entry fee and thus there are no tangible prizes. Participants are responsible for being safe and responsible cyclists. We encourage everyone to wear a helmet and obey the rules of the road. The organizers of this Yellow Jersey Challenge© are simply collecting the data from Strava and sharing it with the participants and accept no responsibility for the safety of the route(s) that each participant chooses.
