About the Commission

The Andover Conservation Commission is an official town commission, established by the Town of Andover pursuant to Connecticut General Statutes (CT Gen Stat § 7-131a (2012). The commission exists “for the development, conservation, supervision and regulation of natural resources, including water resources, within its territorial limits.”

The Commission’s state mandated duties include keeping an index of all open publicly or privately owned areas, including wetlands and water resources, for the purpose of obtaining information on the proper use of such areas; conducting research into the use, and possible use, of land in the municipality and to coordinate the activities of unofficial bodies organized for similar purposes; administering gifts made to the municipality for the commission’s purposes, subject to the terms of those gifts; and approving, before their submission, state grant-in-aid applications for programs related to the use of open space land for conservation or recreation purposes. In addition, the Andover Conservation Commission advises and makes recommendations to the planning and zoning commission, inland wetland and watercourse commissions, and other municipal agencies on proposed land use changes and the conservation of natural resources in town. State statute allows for the Commission to also supervise and manage municipally-owned open space or park property if so authorized by the board of selectmen.

Members are appointed by the Board of Selectmen. Current commissioners include:
