🇺🇸 June 6, 1944 — D-Day 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering determination of the Allied forces who landed on the beaches of Normandy 82 years ago.

On that historic day, thousands of young men faced unimaginable odds, knowing the freedom of future generations depended on their willingness to serve something greater than themselves. Many never made it home. Their bravery helped change the course of history and secured liberties that continue to shape our world today.

At the Swayze Veteran Foundation, we honor not only the heroes of D-Day but all veterans who have answered the call to serve. Their legacy reminds us that freedom is never free—it is earned and protected by those willing to stand in its defense.

As we reflect on the events of June 6, 1944, may we never forget the sacrifices made on the shores of Normandy and may we continue to preserve the stories of those who served, ensuring their courage lives on for generations to come.

“These are the boys of Pointe du Hoc. These are the men who took the cliffs.” — Ronald Reagan

Today, I share this piece of history in honor of my grandfather—a musician, a veteran, a storyteller, and a man deeply loved by his family. Papa played a taps solo for the 10th anniversary of D-Day, in Normandy, 1954. I’ve searched high & low for 10+ years with no luck. Sadly I finally found it the day after he passed last Sunday 🥺.

I wish I could have shown him this video. I wish I could have heard the stories it would have brought back after seeing it.

But even though I found it one day too late, I’m grateful it was found at all.

Thank you for your service, Papa. Thank you for the music. Thank you for the memories.

I’ll keep telling your story. ❤️🇺🇸

Today, the Swayze Veteran Foundation honors the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Memorial Day is a time to remember the heroes who gave their lives defending the freedoms we hold dear. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication will never be forgotten.

We also hold close the families who continue to carry their legacy forward with strength and pride.

As we gather today, may we pause in gratitude and remembrance for those who gave everything for our country.

Forever honored. Never forgotten. 🇺🇸

As we head into a long weekend, to celebrate Memorial Day, we must remember what the meaning of the holiday truly is — so much more than BBQ’s 🍔 & celebrations. Let us pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. Their sacrifice will forever be etched in our hearts.

Observed yearly on the last Monday of May, Memorial Day was first called Decoration Day (until 1887) in a nod to the tradition of placing flowers or other items at gravesites. President Truman asked for Memorial Day to “henceforth be dedicated also as a day for Nation-wide prayer for permanent peace” in 1950.

All gave some; some gave all. Remember them this Memorial Day. Freedom isn't free. This weekend, we reflect and remember. ♥️🇺🇸

Today on Peace Officers Memorial Day, we want to thank the brave men & women of law enforcement, who have devoted their lives to protecting each and every one of us and our communities. May this day honor and be a reminder of the fallen officers who gave their lives and the families they left behind. It is also a day to recognize the officers who have been injured and/or disabled in the line of duty. SVF stands behind each & every officer as well as their families. This is why flags are at half mass today ♥️🇺🇸.

National Police Week began yesterday. Every single day and every single night our brave men and women in blue leave their own families behind to keep our communities safe and sometimes, those officers do not make it back. May we always remember those who protect and serve every single day. Thank you for all you do. ♥️🇺🇸

Today is Mother’s Day. A happy day for some, while others grieve for many reasons & silently sit with aching hearts. Many moms will be celebrated but others will be grieving and holding on to memories from the past. We must remember today is a happy day for some but for many others it is difficult.

Mothers don’t share the same story. One woman is exhausted from being up all night with a sick child while another is missing her own mom. It could be a mother who lost her child far too soon or a woman who is praying to become one. For many it will be a happy day for others to see the joy all over social media but we must remember that many will feel the heartbreak of a day that once was happy.

Maybe that is why mothers were made so incredibly resilient to many seasons of highs and lows. No matter what they continue to show up no matter what they’re going through and if their heart hurts a little or a lot.

So, here’s to all of the moms out there — we see you. If today is tough, we pray for you. If it is full of joy, we celebrate with you. Happy Mother’s Day from us all. ♥️ 🇺🇸

Today, on the 11th anniversary of Daniel’s death, we are yet again reminded of “why” we do what we do. Today please keep Daniel’s family, especially his mother Kathy, in your thoughts and prayers. Burying a child is something that parents shouldn’t have to do. The pain is unimaginable. Please know that if you are a veteran or first responder that suffers with PTSD or trauma after service there are resources to help you.

Our “why”, in Honor of TSgt Daniel R. Swaney.

“Fly high, Airman. 'Til Valhalla, Brother.”

TSgt Daniel R. Swaney, 30, U.S. Air Force, was born in Georgia on July 25, 1984, and passed away on May 7, 2015, after battling the unseen wounds of war. Daniel served with distinction across multiple commands in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and FREEDOM’S SENTINEL. From Shaw AFB and Osan Air Base to Kandahar, Bagram, and Djibouti, he embodied the Air Force values: Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do.

Daniel was decorated with five Air Medals, one Air Force Commendation Medal, and two Air Force Achievement Medals. He served as both a Flight Engineer and F-16 Crew Chief, saving lives through combat search and rescue missions, flying into hostile and extreme environments to evacuate the wounded. His actions directly saved U.S. and coalition forces, Afghan partners, and civilians—risking everything to bring others home.

Daniel helped save countless lives on the battlefield. But like too many of our heroes, he faced a silent battle at home. His memory fuels our mission and reminds us why this work matters. His life and legacy inspire us to build a community that ensures no one is left behind.
