Have you ever wanted to try cyanotype or anthotype? Do shadow puppets have you intrigued? When you look at the sun, do you desire to harness its UV power to create beautiful art? You can do all that and more at our solar printing workshop! Join us Saturday, August 15th from 12-2 pm upstairs at the IOOF Hall in downtown Redding.

All materials are provided, but you are welcome to bring any objects you wish to print on or print with. We have found that dried plants, translucent objects, lace, or random tools and office supplies can be really great materials to use as your subject.

**Sign-ups helpful but not required**

On Friday, July 17 from 6-8 pm, enjoy the sights and smells of our local plants through crafts! Get your frustrations out through eco printing, which includes smashing plants with a hammer to preserve them on fabric. Try a new home fragrance by making incense with plants harvested nearby. Carve out some inspiration with linoleum block printing - use our blocks or create your own.

**This event is FREE and requires sign ups!**

Happy pollinator week! Let's meet some of our local nectar-loving celebrities, who help keep plant life cycles moving.

🦋 A California favorite is the Pipevine Swallowtail (Battus philenor). You'll see the black caterpillars with orange spikes chowing down on Dutchman's Pipe (Aristolochia californica), their host plant. They use the plant's toxicity to their advantage, accumulating the toxins in their body as they eat. Combined with their showy coloration, this adaptation makes predators stay far away. As adults, the butterflies have a varied diet - we saw many hanging out on a California buckeye, helping move pollen from flower to flower as they got sugary drinks. 🦋

Pollinator Week is an annual celebration in support of pollinator health that was initiated and is managed by Pollinator Partnership.

Sorry to bug you... do you have any weekend plans?

On Saturday, May 30 from 10am - 12pm, discover the big role tiny insects play in our aquatic ecosystem and how they survive in a bug- eat-bug world. Join AmeriCorps member Kristina Krajcik from the Western Shasta RCD for a family friendly day of turning over rocks, wading in the stream, or simply watching from the shore. We’ll spend the day sampling for aquatic invertebrates and explore the mysteries of the underwater world. We will bring extra nets and tools to allow guests, big and small, the opportunity to gather insects.

Wear shoes that can get wet and stay securely on your feet - flip flops discouraged.
