Sorry to bug you... do you have any weekend plans?

On Saturday, May 30 from 10am - 12pm, discover the big role tiny insects play in our aquatic ecosystem and how they survive in a bug- eat-bug world. Join AmeriCorps member Kristina Krajcik from the Western Shasta RCD for a family friendly day of turning over rocks, wading in the stream, or simply watching from the shore. We’ll spend the day sampling for aquatic invertebrates and explore the mysteries of the underwater world. We will bring extra nets and tools to allow guests, big and small, the opportunity to gather insects.

Wear shoes that can get wet and stay securely on your feet - flip flops discouraged.

The Thing Swap is right around the corner!
Join the Shasta Environmental Alliance, Western Shasta Resource Conservation District, and Shasta Conservation Fund for a lively “Free for All ~ Thing Swap”—a morning of sharing, treasure‑hunting, and community connection. Bring gently used items you no longer need, set them out for others to enjoy, and browse the tables to see what useful or delightful things you might take home.
Thing swaps are a simple, joyful way to care for our ecosystem by reducing consumption, extending the life of everyday items, and keeping usable goods out of the landfill. They also strengthen community ties—every shared object becomes a small act of generosity that helps neighbors meet neighbors.
Event Details
You may place your giveaway items on the tables provided or bring your own. Please label any personal tables as “not part of swap” so they return to their owners at the end of the event.
Participants are responsible for removing any unclaimed items they brought. Event organizers cannot provide disposal or cleanup services.
After you’ve finished setting out and collecting items, stay to enjoy informal community activities—games, raffles, and opportunities to connect with others who care about reducing waste and building a resilient local community.
Please, no pets except service dogs on a leash.

Parking is limited near the WSRCD building, so carpooling is encouraged.
Prepare for the Event
Clean out your garage, shed, and closets. Look for items you haven’t used in a year, things that feel like clutter, or items someone else could put to good use. Unused seed packets, extra garden tools, plastic pots, bikes, skates, camping gear, kitchen items, books, art supplies—almost anything can find a new home.
Pack your items for easy transport. Bring boxes or bags you can carry from the unloading area to the tables, which may be a few hundred feet away.
Label items that are not part of the swap. Mark tarps, tables, boxes, or other containers you plan to take home.
Bring a bag or box for treasures you collect. Label it with your name so others know your gathered items are no longer available for swapping.
