Grimes County Community Emergency Response Team

Grimes County Community Emergency Response Team The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area.

Brazos Valley is a regional CERT program established in 2002, with a focus on preparing citizens to help themselves and their neighbors in a disaster. We have trained 55 teams with over 900 members. We cover the 7 counties that make up the Brazos Valley Council of Governments, Brazos, Washington, Burleson, Robertson, Leon,Madison and Grimes. We have been selected as one of three best practices pro

grams in Texas. We also offer a basic Disaster Preparedness Class that includes a free family first aid kit upon completion. Remember in a disaster our first responders may be delayed and you may be called on to help will you be ready? The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

Available services will vary by community. For more information on how your community will use information in the STEAR registry, contact your local emergency management office.

Who should register?

As we look toward the weekend we encourage you to prepare for a hard freeze. The winter weather should be arriving Friday and continuing through Monday. It is expected that the worst days will be Sunday and Monday with the possibly of the temperatures in the teens and wind gust of 20-30 mph.

We are also looking at precipitation that could result in freezing rain, slick roads, and power disruptions. Prepare to have water on hand, easy meals that may not need to be heated, and stay home if able.
