Guess what happens when an amazing rescue group rescues a mama and her 10 puppies from an abandoned shed? And when a selfless woman takes that mama and 10 puppies into her home to foster and provide love and care for them? And when that same selfless woman contacts Freedom Train Pit Stop about getting the entire family spayed and neutered? And when Anderson County Humane Society successfully spays and neuters that mama and all 10 of her puppies?
What happens is that many people come together to not only save a lonely and overburdened mama and her 10 pups, but those same people work toward a solution to an insanely ridiculous overpopulation of these amazing dogs! And what happens is that this one mama dog and her six female puppies and their offspring will no longer produce approximately 67,000 dogs over the next six years! And that's not even including what the four male puppies and their offspring would contribute.
That's not some crazy figure that I just threw out during one of my many moments of madness, but the American Veterinary Medical Association's statistic!
So, unlike many other nights that I, like my animal rescue cohorts, go to bed with a scowl on my face, I will go to bed smiling because this was a huge win not only for Harley and her babies, but for the pit bull population as a whole. I think I'll take it!
Special thanks to Anderson County Humane Society, Speak For Animals, and Mary Eurick for helping make life better for Harley and her babies!
* I'm doing this for you, Penny. Rest in peace, my sweet girl. ❤️
