On June 14, 2026, a family's world changed forever. Now, we need your help!
At just 29 years old, Jose Garcia tragically drowned while swimming at Lake Hartwell in Anderson, SC. In a matter of moments, a wife lost her husband, children lost their father, and countless friends and coworkers lost someone they loved dearly.
As I sit here writing this, my heart breaks for the family Jose leaves behind. No one plans for a tragedy like this. No one expects to have to say goodbye to someone so young, with so much life left to live.
Jose was more than a name. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a son, a friend, and a hardworking man who cared deeply for those around him. He loved his family fiercely, enjoyed spending time with them, and was always willing to help anyone who needed a hand. His loss leaves a hole that can never truly be filled.
Today, I am asking our community to rally around this family during the darkest days of their lives. We are not asking for a certain amount. We are simply asking that if you are able, you give from your heart. Whether it is $1, $5, $20, or more, every single dollar will go toward helping Jose and his family give him the dignified farewell he deserves.
Donations can be made through Mitchell's Light, and I personally promise that 100% of all donations will go directly to Jose's family and burial expenses. Mitchell's Light is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and tax receipts can be provided for all donations. We have attached our Venmo information, and if you would like to donate another way, please send me a message. Donations may also be dropped off at Louie's Bar and Grill (please ask for a manager).
There is something I want everyone to think about for just a moment. It is easy to read a story like this and believe it could never happen to your family. Ten years ago, I thought the same thing. Then, in March of 2016, tragedy struck my family and changed our lives forever. I learned firsthand how quickly life can change and how much the love and support of a community can mean when you are struggling to put one foot in front of the other.
Because of that experience, I cannot look away from this family's pain. It is on my heart to remind his family that they are not alone.
If you can help, please do. If you cannot donate, please pray. Pray for a grieving wife. Pray for children trying to understand the loss of their father. Pray for all of those whose hearts are broken with the loss of Jose. And please share this post. One share could reach the person who is able to help.
I have seen this community perform miracles for families in need. I have seen strangers become blessings and neighbors become family. Today, I am asking you to do it again.
Let's come together and show Jose's family that even in the middle of unimaginable heartbreak, they do not have to walk this journey alone.
Thank you for your prayers, your generosity, and your love. ❤️
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at any time.
