Mitchell's Light

Mitchell's Light Empowerment and Resources through Education. We provide public education, public safety, and water awareness for search and recovery on the water.

In times of tragedy, the light still shines. Through our own personal experience, we saw a need. This need begins with compassion and education and leads to recovery and healing. Mitchell Don Gibson, age 27, a commercial fisherman from Starr SC, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016. A fisherman threw his last net that night, cast his last line, got his last bite

A fisherman wet his last hook tha

t night, tied his last knot, turned on his last light

Commercial Fisherman, Mitchell Don Gibson went home to fish with the Master of the Sea on March 13, 2016. Mitchell was born in Greenville, SC on April 5, 1988, went missing on Lake Richard B Russell on March 13, 2016 and there his body remained until it was recovered on October 27, 2016 by the heart and dedication of Gene and Sandy Ralston. Mitchell had the heart and soul of a fisherman, a hunter and good old country boy and over the years, would tell you that when it was time for him to go home to the Lord, he wanted to go while fishing or hunting. During our search for Mitchell, we realized their was a tremendous gap in what could be done and what was done when it came to search and recovery of Mitchell. We took it upon ourselves to research what options were out there and who could utilize those resources. Waiting on him to surface, was NOT an option. Water recovery differs in EVERY case and education is the key component in ensuring that a family can gain the closure they deserve. Our goals are to bring the education, resources, capability and knowledge to the ones who answer the CALL. During this difficult time, we made contacts all over the United States that have the know how and can help in situations such as this and our goal is to pass along ALL knowledge and resources to families who are currently struggling to find the answers they so desperately need.

💛 David Seymour’s fundraiser is almost halfway to its goal, but there’s still a long way to go.

At Mitchell’s Light, bringing loved ones home is a mission that’s incredibly close to our hearts. We know how much this means to a family waiting for answers.

If you’re able, please consider making a donation. If you can’t give, sharing this fundraiser could help it reach someone who can.

Every donation. Every share. Every act of kindness matters.

Let’s help bring David home. 💙

đź’” On June 14, 2026, the Garcia family experienced an unimaginable tragedy.

At just 29 years old, Jose Garcia tragically lost his life while swimming at Lake Hartwell in Anderson, South Carolina. In an instant, a wife lost her husband, children lost their father, and coworkers lost a friend!

Now, his family is facing the overwhelming emotional and financial burden of bringing Jose home to Mexico, where he will be laid to rest surrounded by loved ones.

Today, we are asking our community to come together and help ease that burden.

Every donation—no matter the amount—will go directly toward transportation costs, funeral expenses, and supporting Jose’s family during this incredibly difficult time.

Mitchell’s Light is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and 100% of donations will go directly to Jose’s family. Tax receipts are available upon request.

If you are unable to donate, please share this post and keep Jose’s family in your prayers. One share could help this family receive the support they need.

Let’s show the Garcia family they do not have to walk through this heartbreak alone!

On June 14, 2026, a family's world changed forever. Now, we need your help!

At just 29 years old, Jose Garcia tragically drowned while swimming at Lake Hartwell in Anderson, SC. In a matter of moments, a wife lost her husband, children lost their father, and countless friends and coworkers lost someone they loved dearly.

As I sit here writing this, my heart breaks for the family Jose leaves behind. No one plans for a tragedy like this. No one expects to have to say goodbye to someone so young, with so much life left to live.

Jose was more than a name. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a son, a friend, and a hardworking man who cared deeply for those around him. He loved his family fiercely, enjoyed spending time with them, and was always willing to help anyone who needed a hand. His loss leaves a hole that can never truly be filled.

Today, I am asking our community to rally around this family during the darkest days of their lives. We are not asking for a certain amount. We are simply asking that if you are able, you give from your heart. Whether it is $1, $5, $20, or more, every single dollar will go toward helping Jose and his family give him the dignified farewell he deserves.

Donations can be made through Mitchell's Light, and I personally promise that 100% of all donations will go directly to Jose's family and burial expenses. Mitchell's Light is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and tax receipts can be provided for all donations. We have attached our Venmo information, and if you would like to donate another way, please send me a message. Donations may also be dropped off at Louie's Bar and Grill (please ask for a manager).

There is something I want everyone to think about for just a moment. It is easy to read a story like this and believe it could never happen to your family. Ten years ago, I thought the same thing. Then, in March of 2016, tragedy struck my family and changed our lives forever. I learned firsthand how quickly life can change and how much the love and support of a community can mean when you are struggling to put one foot in front of the other.

Because of that experience, I cannot look away from this family's pain. It is on my heart to remind his family that they are not alone.

If you can help, please do. If you cannot donate, please pray. Pray for a grieving wife. Pray for children trying to understand the loss of their father. Pray for all of those whose hearts are broken with the loss of Jose. And please share this post. One share could reach the person who is able to help.

I have seen this community perform miracles for families in need. I have seen strangers become blessings and neighbors become family. Today, I am asking you to do it again.

Let's come together and show Jose's family that even in the middle of unimaginable heartbreak, they do not have to walk this journey alone.

Thank you for your prayers, your generosity, and your love. ❤️

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at any time.

Prayers~Hope~Love~Blessings
