Juneteenth is an annual holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the US. On June 19, 1865, about two months after Robert E. Lee surrendered, a Union general arrived to Galveston, Texas to inform enslaved individuals that the Civil War had ended. This announcement put the Emancipation Proclamation into effect, though it had been issued more than two and a half years earlier in 1863.

Though the recognition of Juneteenth is a step, Black people are still actively systemically oppressed. #β€οΈπŸ–€πŸ’š

Congrats Ms Jean-Pierre πŸ‘πŸΎ White House principal deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre became the first Black woman in 30 years to lead a White House press briefing on Wednesday.

Jean-Pierre told ,"I appreciate the historic nature, I really do. But I believe that being behind this podium, being in this room, being in this building, is not about one person. It's about what we do on behalf of the American people," adding, "it's another reason why I think we're all so proud that this is the most diverse administration in history."

Rest well DMX. You will be missed. May his family find comfort knowing that he encouraged as many souls as he did in his lifetime. Some of us can only imagine doing a fraction of that. May your words and your energy live on forever 🌟
