In Loving Memory of Dolly Parton 🕊️💛
On July 31, 2023, I had the incredible privilege of being at a private company event where Dolly Parton came and sang for us. I pulled out my phone and recorded this video, never imagining how precious that little recording would one day become.
What I remember just as much as her voice was her spirit. She was so incredibly sweet, humble, genuine, and kind. For someone whose name was known around the world, she had a beautiful way of simply making you feel like you were in the presence of a good person.
The song she sang that day was “Try,” and listening to its message now feels especially meaningful to us at Grace’s Haven.
It speaks about dreaming, believing, getting back up when you fall, refusing to let failure define you, and having the courage to keep trying. Those are messages that reach far beyond a song. They are messages so many people struggling with mental health need to hear:
Your hardest day does not have to be your last chapter.
There will be mountains. There will be valleys. There will be days when simply getting back up feels like an accomplishment all by itself. But keep going. Keep believing. Keep reaching. And when someone beside you is struggling to find the strength to try again, help remind them that they are worth another tomorrow.
Dolly spent a lifetime using her gifts to bring joy, hope, laughter, faith, and encouragement to others. I’m incredibly thankful that, for just a little while on July 31, 2023, I had the privilege of sitting there and hearing some of that encouragement in person.
Today, Grace’s Haven shares this personal recording in her honor—and in honor of every person who needs the reminder contained in her beautiful message:
Keep trying. ❤️
Rest peacefully, Dolly. Thank you for the music, the memories, the kindness, and for reminding generations of dreamers that sometimes the bravest thing we can do is simply try again.
