Meet one of our newest PicScience Math geniuses! She’s quiet, direct, and incredibly sharp, and we love the way she automatically responds with confidence when it’s time to work through a problem. Even more exciting, she enjoys explaining her thinking to her group, helping everyone learn and grow together.

Have you ever seen a child truly enjoy expanding their knowledge of math? She does, and that is huge. That kind of excitement and curiosity is exactly what we love to see at camp.

She is focused, she is growing, and she is getting more and more prepared to compete in our upcoming Math Tournament on July 9th at 11:00 AM.

We’re so glad to have her on the team, and we cannot wait for everyone to come cheer her on as she shows off her skills and confidence. Stay tuned!!

Week 3 at Dothan Community Math Camp is OFFICIALLY in full swing at Hawk Houston! 📚✏️

For the past two weeks, our scholars have been working in three ability-based groups so they could get the exact support they needed, right when they needed it. This targeted grouping has paid off in a big way: two of our groups have now REJOINED into one core class, and Group 3 is almost ready to join us tomorrow. The best part? The kids are now TEACHING each other, explaining strategies, checking work together, and celebrating those “I get it now!” moments.

This is what happens when you combine:

•Targeted ability grouping for focused support
•A safe space to grow at your own pace
•Then bring everyone back together to bridge gaps as a team

Huge shoutout to our amazing math camp team:

•Our tutors: Keristen, Brooke, and Tiyana for their patience, energy, and skill.
•Our Hawk Houston junior counselor Ava, who jumps in wherever needed to support both kids and tutors.
•The Hawk Houston staff and our community grandparents who are steady role models when kids feel frustrated or discouraged. Your presence matters more than you know.

Today was a strong win at Dothan Community Summer Math Camp: Week 2, Day 4.

Our students are pushing hard to complete their Fractions for Beginners workbooks as we prepare for the July 9 Math Tournament at Hawk Houston YEC. We cleared up misunderstandings, broke things down, and are working master the factors behind equivalent fractions.

Momentum is building, and we’re not slowing down. Back at it tomorrow.

📚➕ Day 3 of Math Camp was a Success! ➕📚
This summer, our students are building confidence and strengthening their math skills with a special focus on fractions. Through hands-on learning, small-group instruction, and targeted support, we are working to ensure every student has the opportunity to improve, grow, and succeed.

We are incredibly proud of our students and the commitment they are making to themselves. Every day they are growing in confidence, sharpening their skills, and proving that progress comes from perseverance and hard work.
As we continue through camp, we are on track for a strong finish and an exciting Math
Tournament to celebrate all they have learned!

One of the most rewarding moments at Hawk Houston YEC is watching Dothan-area children light up when they see their assessment scores improve. Through personalized support, enrichment opportunities, small-group learning, and consistent encouragement, students begin to recognize their own potential.

🎉📚 SUMMER MATH CAMP IS OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY! 📚🎉

Today we kicked off our Fractions for Beginners Summer Math Camp, powered by Grove Community Outreach and hosted at Hawk Houston Youth Enrichment Center.

We are excited to welcome a wonderful group of students who are ready to learn, grow, challenge themselves, and support one another throughout this journey. Over the next four weeks, our students will be building their skills in multiplication, division, fractions, and problem-solving as they prepare for our exciting Math Tournament on July 9th.

One of the things we love most about this program is watching students discover their confidence. Every student starts in a different place, but together we'll focus on growth, teamwork, perseverance, and celebrating progress along the way.

This summer is about more than math. It's about helping students believe in themselves, encouraging them to support one another, and showing them that hard work and consistency lead to success.

We can't wait to share updates from camp and highlight the incredible achievements our students make throughout the program.

We’re excited to invite the community to the upcoming Dothan Community Math Tournament hosted through PicScience and Grove Community Outreach, Inc.!

Since 2022, we’ve worked with students across the Wiregrass to strengthen math skills, build confidence, and create meaningful learning opportunities.
