Subsistence is a living Indigenous practice, not a relic of the past.
This decision leaves federal protections for Alaska Native subsistence in place, underscoring how often Native lifeways continue to be challenged.

Repost from

Historic victory for Alaska Native communities: Today, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear U.S v. Alaska, the State of Alaska’s challenge to Alaska Native subsistence rights in federal waters. Today’s decision officially ends the case and reaffirms both the congressionally protected subsistence rights of rural communities and the legacy of the landmark Katie John cases: https://narf.org/2024-us-v-ak/
