After five years of military service, Joey Butcher came to UAA as a “true beginner” in music. Today, the Honors College student and McNair Scholar is majoring in vocal performance with a minor in dance. He's also leading his own jazz band, Swing Syndicate, and teaching private music lessons to elementary students. Joey believes music can bring people together in ways few other disciplines can. Congratulations to University of Alaska Anchorage Cross Country and Track & Field student-athlete John Peckham on being named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year ▶ heyor.ca/lF8mqO! 👏

Congratulations to John Peckham on being named the GNAC Scholar Athlete of the Year.

The native of Sisters, Ore. earned All-American honors in cross country and in the steeplechase. And he has a 4.0 GPA. And is a really great guy.
