Happy Good Trouble Day! Wherever you are tonight, let’s all get involved and continue making a difference.
Here in Anchorage, we’ll gather on the Park Strip from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM for music, poetry, and a tribute to Congressman John Lewis—who passed away five years ago on 7/17 and inspired us all with his legacy of "Good Trouble."
Across the street at First Presbyterian Church, located at 616 West 10th Ave, we’ll be collecting canned food (individual cans, multi-packs, cases!) from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM for the Food Bank of Alaska.
This day is a national day of nonviolent action to respond to attacks on our civil and human rights—attacks that continue under the current administration, from voter suppression bills like the SAVE Act to the criminalization of protests. We’re taking action to defend democracy and honor John Lewis’s legacy, which reminds us that in America, power belongs to the people.
This is more than a protest; it’s a moral reckoning—a continuation of the movement Lewis helped lead and a new front in the fight for freedom.
Remember: a core principle of our actions is nonviolence. We all should seek to de-escalate any potential conflicts and stand firm in our shared values.
And there’s more happening across Alaska—check out all the events at https://goodtroubleliveson.org/. Let’s keep getting into good trouble and making our voices heard!
On July 17, five years since the passing of Congressman John Lewis, communities across the country will take to the streets, courthouses, and community spaces to carry forward his fight for justice, voting rights, and dignity for all.
