Wetlands are more than just water and plants, they are living connections between our people, culture, and the land.
For Tribal communities, wetlands provide habitat for fish, birds, and plants that support subsistence harvesting, food security, and traditional lifeways. They help filter water, protect wildlife, and strengthen community resilience in a changing climate.
At CRRC, we are partnered with UAA and our Tribes to map, restore, and protect these vital ecosystems by bringing together Indigenous knowledge and modern science. Protecting wetlands means protecting our culture, resources, and future generations.

A big shoutout to everyone who helped with the trash cleanup at APMI last Thursday! Your hard work and willingness to pitch in made a huge difference in helping keep our community beautiful.

A special thank you to Tara for providing some awesome snacks for everyone to enjoy after the cleanup. It was a great way to wrap up a productive day together.

Our team at APMI is getting the potatoes tucked in for another exciting summer growing season! This marks our second year growing potatoes, with varieties including Yukon Gold, Purple Viking, Tlingit, and Haida.

Once harvest season arrives, these potatoes will be shared with the communities of Chenega, Tatitlek, and Qutekcak, helping provide locally grown food throughout the region.

A special thank you to the Prince William Sound Stewardship Foundation for their funding support in the summer of 2025, which helped make the construction of these growing beds possible. We appreciate your investment in local food security and community agriculture!

Just a little over a week later, these leafy greens have doubled in size and are almost ready for harvest!

Picture one was taken May 15th and the other two pictures were taken just yesterday! It's always exciting to watch the journey from seed to harvest and see firsthand how quickly fresh, healthy food can be grown in a hydroponic system.

These greens are headed to market, where their sales help support the continued operation of the hydroponic unit that provides year-round fresh produce in Seward. The program also helps fund educational opportunities and supplies for the hydroponic cabinets in Port Graham and Nanwalek, where community members are gaining hands-on experience growing food locally.

Every harvest helps grow more than just vegetables—it helps grow knowledge, skills, and food security throughout our communities.
