Friends of Fish Creek Anchorage We are daylighting Fish Creek, known as Ch’atanaltsegh and Łiq'aka Betnu in Dena'ina. Let's fix that.

The 8-mile waterway supported salmon runs until it was decimated by 1970s-era development.

Join us Thursday, August 27, from 5–7 p.m. at Lyn Ary Park for the free Fish Creek Indigenous Place Name Celebration.

This family-friendly evening will honor the Dena'ina name for Fish Creek, Ch'atanaltsegh, and celebrate the future of the Fish Creek estuary.

The evening includes an opening ceremony, Indigenous Friendship Dancers, an animal-themed procession to the estuary, family activities, food trucks, and a 6 p.m. outdoor concert by Pamyua. Bring a lawn chair or blanket.

The first 50 attendees will also receive a $15 food truck ticket, while supplies last.

Hosted in partnership with the Native Village of Eklutna, Anchorage Park Foundation, Great Land Trust, Anchorage Concert Association, Alaska Native Heritage Center, Anchorage Parks and Recreation, and Anchorage Museum.

Come Find Us at Thursday’s Free Concert
Friends of Fish Creek will be at the free summer concert at Cuddy Family Midtown Park this Thursday, July 30, from 7:00–8:30 p.m.

Stop by our table next to the Anchorage Park Foundation table to say hello, learn more about daylighting Fish Creek, and sign up for updates.

Dear Friends of Fish Creek:

You will see heavy equipment operating in the Fish Creek Estuary [Łiq'aka Betnu in Dena'ina] due to a catastrophic break in the 30" sewer pipe buried there. Assembly Member Anna Brawley alerted the Westside community that Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility is using the AK Railroad access road adjacent to the estuary to excavate and repair the broken pipe. Follow us here for more information about the repair schedule and the extent of the contamination of the estuary, which unfortunately has occurred just as the earliest bird migrations are expected in Anchorage. Much of the lift station and pipe infrastructure for the sewer line was under construction less than 10 years ago. We're monitoring the response and hope contamination will be limited.
