Hello Fireweed Residents and Neighbors!

I wanted to introduce myself to the group. My name is Rebecca Doty and I am the new Mayor of our neighborhood!

My family and I have been here at JBER almost 5 years now. We are very active in the youth sports programs, volunteering at the USO and living the great outdoors life here in Alaska.

I will share important information from Aurora as well as local and base events that I think the neighborhood may like to know about. Feel free to also share any local or base events that you would like as well.

I am really looking forward to assisting everyone! Please do not hesitate to message me with any questions or concerns you may have so that they can be relayed on to housing if needed.

-Rebecca

Dear Neighbors,

The bears are out and Security Forces & the CLEOs need our help! They are aggressively looking for bears on trash pick up days, to run them out of neighborhoods and hopefully teach the bears that trashcans are not easy pickings.

Reports can be called in via the JBERConnect App, Reports --> Wildlife; and calling into the dispatch desk (or call directly 907-552-7070).

Reports are used to create a 'heat map' for bear activity, that the CLEOs can then target to scare off bears.

Reporting bear activity in the neighborhood is for everyone’s safety, even the bears. If we help make food/trash less available and less attractive to the bears, they’ll stay out if the neighborhoods.

Thank you for being bear aware!

Aurora Military Housing Residents,
If you haven’t already checked it out, please take a look at the Summer Safety Reminders on the Aurora blog https://www.auroramilitaryhousing.com/blog/summer-safety-reminders/. It is filled with important information related to living on JBER. If these reminders don’t already come to your inbox, please sign up at https://www.auroramilitaryhousing.com/email-sign-up/.

Highlights:
Outdoor Firepits, Grills and Burn Bans:
Garages are not for fires.
Grill responsibly.
Be aware of burn bans.
Sun, Heat and Windows:
There is no air conditioning on JBER. Turn your thermostat down. Do not use “cool” setting on thermostat (it will circulate warm air and will run the blower motor constantly).
Close blinds to decrease the amount of sunlight/heat entering rooms.
Use portable fans.
Open windows.
Screens keep bugs out but aren’t designed to hold the weight of children/pets.
Remove climbable furniture from under windows.
Close and lock windows if leaving kids unattended.
**Aurora will soon have window limiting devices available both at self-help and as a maintenance request. More information to come.**
Playground and Recreation Safety
Report playground damage to Aurora immediately. Many parks have a QR code that will take you to the Aurora website https://www.auroramilitaryhousing.com/maintenance/. You can also call the maintenance line at 907-753-1091.
Monitor children while they are at play. Report any concerns about unattended children to Security Forces at 907-552-3421.
Wildlife Safety
Don’t feed or attempt to pet wildlife.
Bird feeds are only allowed October 30 to April 1.
Keep garbage roll carts inside except on trash day. Do not place them outside the night before.
If aggressive or threatening wildlife is sighted in a neighborhood, it should be reported directly to JBER Security Forces at 907.552.3421. Security Forces will dispatch Conservation Law Enforcement personnel. They use a variety of techniques to track, deter, and maintain wildlife populations on the installation; reports from residents greatly assist their efforts in promoting a safe environment for all.

Please reach out to Aurora Military Housing, your neighborhood mayor or the mayor coordinator ([email protected]) with any questions.

Thank you!
