Great News! And only because it was requested:

We are extending the application period for DistinguiSHEd Mentors Alaska '24 cohort until MONDAY, JULY 1st. You now have more time to complete a simple, 1-page application for mentorship.

In conjunction with the Anchorage Chamber Young Professionals Group (YPG’s), DistinguiSHEd Mentors Alaska (no In it's 5th year) helps provide Alaska’s ambitious women leaders with a next-level opportunity for professional mentorship.

By definition: “Mentorship is the influence, guidance, or direction given by a mentor. In an organizational setting, a mentor influences the personal and professional growth of a mentee”. Mentorship can happen in many ways – it can be a short, one-time exchange, an organic relationship that develops over time, a pairing that takes place within a professional setting, or through a program like this one.

DistinguiSHEd Mentors Alaska – formerly the 20-Something Mentorship Project – connects industry thought-leaders and established professionals with mentees (no age restrictions). Through this 4-month program (July -> October), mentees are paired with a mentor in their field of choice to assist them with a professional goal. This could include finding a bigger role within their respective industry, launching a business, switching industries all together – or something else.

This program also includes additional opportunities for networking as mentees are asked to attend a series of events (monthly) – complimentary with your one-time dues of $100.00. Scholarships are available!

Here’s how it works: go to WPLAK.com and learn more / fill out an application. If selected, we will contact you with information about your mentor and walk you through the process of getting started (this includes a mandatory welcome meeting). We want to meet you!

The application period ends MONDAY, JULY 1st. Applications can be found online at WPLAK.com. Pass it on & thank you!

International Women's Day is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. We celebrate all women today, and want to give an enormous shout out to former WPLAK Mentor and Alaska's favorite Meteorologist, Jackie Purcell-Channel 2 Weather! She delivered today's weather wearing her WPLAK button. We see you - Thank You for the love

What are your plans this upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day? Passing along some statewide MLK Day / weekend happenings, shared by The Foraker Group. January 15th is a "day on", not a day off - shout out to all who will be in our communities honoring the legacy of Dr. King.

WPLAK shares Dr. King's Dream and his belief that we must never stop advocating for equality and racial justice. That is, until, the Dream is realized.

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." - Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Today! No imposter syndrome here - today, we nailed it 🎯

Thanks to all for (what we believe to be) our most successful women’s forum to date. Implementing feedback we received along the way, we worked with the Anchorage Museum on a seating design that was fluid and casual. In addition to building time to socialize in our agenda, this seating choice allowed for more meaningful connections in between our dynamic panels & presenters 🔥

We’ll most likely be shouting our thanks from the rooftops for the next few weeks, but we had to share a few shots from the afternoon. Thank you to our volunteers, speakers, event hostess, panel hostesses, keynote speaker, photographer, videographer - and to you, for supporting our mission! Feeling focused, rejuvenated and ready for the business ahead 🙌🏽
