Youth Transition Program

The Youth Transition Program assists in obtaining skills and prepare youth with a visual impairment to enter into the adult world of higher education, employment and community awareness. Youth or young adults are given the opportunity to gain the necessary tools to navigate the challenges of facing adulthood with a visual disability. Youth are encouraged to explore all areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum for persons with a visual impairment. Training in the following areas such as blind compensatory skills (Braille reading and writing), technology skills, independent travel, self advocacy skills, and activities of daily living. These skills are the fundamental components that are needed in order for youth to enter into the areas of higher education and employment with knowledge and confidence.

Once compensatory skills are in place, then youth are able to incorporate other needed skills in the areas of social awareness, self-advocacy, educational exploration, labor market analysis and personal finance.

It takes the support from community, organization’s, personal donors, grants and the department of vocational rehabilitation to make our program possible. Please consider supporting the youth transition program with a donation. We have several programs and functions throughout the year that you can choose to support.
