Over the last year, part of Alaska Village Initiatives (AVI) organizational attention centered on preparing for broadband resources made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). In that effort, AVI’s project management team has undergone significant change. This was necessary to maximize awarded resources and to adapt to rapidly evolving technology. Along those lines, we have pulled away from high-cost construction projects that result in outdated infrastructure and technology to a much more streamlined approach using affordable, rapidly evolving, Low Earth Orbit satellite broadband technology. This new direction results in better, faster broadband performance at a mere fraction of the operating cost of what was previously proposed to Federal funding agencies, resulting in a more accessible, affordable and sustainable service.
Brad Angasan, Project Coordinator, and Chastine Lynch, Project Director, will reach out to each consortium member very shortly to discuss planning and preparation. Brad and Chastine are part of a robust management team of various technical experts that I am excited to work with as we adapt to the changing world of broadband service delivery.
We are excited about this new chapter; we look forward to the future of creating access to high-speed broadband for all our friends and neighbors throughout rural Alaska.
