ANVCA Board and staff sends its congratulations to Chugach Regional Corp. new President/CEO Josie Hickel! Josie will no doubt be a strong leader for her Region!

In her prior position as Executive Vice President ANCSA and Community Affairs, Hickel was instrumental in executing groundbreaking land development opportunities for the corporation, including the carbon credit offset (CCO) project and Bering River coal rights transaction. Information on who to call

Our hearts are heavy for our communities struggling with the loss and devastation from this storm. We are also very disturbed to see that even amidst this tragedy, individuals are taking advantage and looting the beaches in front of privately owned lands at Fort Davis, and down the coast. This is not how we help each other.

Our families and neighbors deserve compassion and dignity. Trespass and looting is not acceptable. Alaska Native allotments and ANCSA lands are PRIVATE property. If you see issues of trespass or looting, please call the Alaska State Troopers 907-443-5525.

Our resiliency always shines through as we help one another. Kawerak condemns looters!

Calls have been made to our Governor and Congressional Delegation to request a major federal disaster declaration. Communities have wiped out roads, underwater runways, lost homes, not drinking water etc. We need this declaration to receive federal aid.

The devastating storm in Western Alaska has affected so many, it has certainly been hard to watch unfold. The response from local community members, and unfortunately the loss of homes and boats, pains the heart. Knowing the receding waters will leave behind flooded lagoons and unsanitary conditions with only two weeks left in the barge season only heightens our awareness to the seriousness of this situation. ANVCA encourages those who can donate to Alaska Community Foundation, or other non-profits and ANCs that will coordinate relief funds to please do so. We are praying for our friends and families affected by this horrific storm.

A former typhoon is bringing damaging winds, dangerous seas, and an extreme storm surge to the western side of the state with hurricane-force winds.
