🛏️ A Simple Net That Saves Lives

Mosquito nets have been shown to reduce malaria cases is children by 60%!

During peak mosquito season this year (January 2026), Malawi Children’s Village distributed 96 insecticide-treated bed nets to vulnerable children—paired with hands-on education to ensure they’re used effectively.

A simple solution. A life-saving impact.
Explore more stories like this on our website.

The MCV bednet distribution program prevents malaria by distributing bednets and providing instruction in how to use them. Catherine Shabani delivers the bed nets to the village households, instructs the guardians in their use, and periodically does in-village inspections of those in use. This instr...

Building protection. Strengthening stability.

Construction has begun at MCV to protect teacher housing from seasonal flooding. After severe rains and a cyclone in 2023 caused repeated flooding, crews are creating new drainage channels and strengthening a nearby stream to move water safely away from homes.

This project will help ensure teachers and their families can live and work without disruption during the rainy season—supporting a stronger, more stable learning environment for the children they serve.

Construction has officially commenced to reduce flooding around the MCV teacher housing compound! Our team has started digging new drainage channels behind the buildings to help move water away from the houses during heavy rains. These efforts come in response to the cyclone that struck Mangochi in....

Growing Hope 🌱

Our Demonstration Garden is more than just a garden — it’s a place where fresh food, learning, and community come together. By growing nutritious produce and sharing gardening skills, we’re helping fight food insecurity and empowering families to grow their own healthy food.

Every seed planted is a step toward stronger, healthier communities. 🌿

Food insecurity continues to worsen across Malawi each year. Extreme weather, rising costs, and repeated crop losses leave people struggling to grow enough food to feed their families. MCV is taking steps to support sustainable solutions.

Stitching a Brighter Future: Handmade in Malawi🌟
Sewing is a skill that can unlock a lifetime of possibilities and financial freedom for those who dare to dream. At MCV, students ignite their passions through our skills training programs-one area of training is sewing. On any given day, the MCV Sewing Workshop buzzes with creativity. Ayami, a talented student trained by Nettie Graulich, and his team work hard to create stunning items, from vibrant bags to elegant purses. Throughout Malawi, and even at the Lilongwe Airport gift shop, the signature African patterns and 'Handmade in Malawi' tags proudly proclaim that MCV's Sewing Project is a beacon of hope, shining bright beyond MCV's 39 communities.

What’s a Treadle Pump—and Why It Matters

A treadle pump is a simple, human-powered irrigation tool that uses foot pressure to lift water from the ground or nearby water sources—like Lake Malawi—to irrigate crops. No fuel. No electricity. Just reliable access to water. 💧

From October to March, Malawi faces Njala—the lean season—when food supplies run low and farming families struggle to feed themselves. To help address this, Malawi Children’s Village is partnering with the Rotary Club of Limbe and the Rotary Club of Kansas City Plaza, with support from The Rotary Foundation.

🌱 What this project provides:
--Treadle pumps for smallholder farmers
--Hands-on training and maintenance support
--The ability to irrigate crops year-round, often doubling harvests

MCV Executive Director Felix Chirombo calls this initiative “an entry point for small farmers to overcome food insecurity.”

Working alongside MCV’s solar pump program—and with the contributions fro m the Rotary Club of Clifton Springs, New York—this project shows what’s possible when communities and partners come together.

Staff Spotlight: Leading with Excellence in Education

Meet Raymond Kapito, Head Teacher of Gracious Secondary School and a driving force behind the school’s academic success.

Mr. Kapito began his career after earning a Diploma in Education in 2005 and joined Gracious Secondary School in 2011 as a science teacher, teaching mathematics and biology. His dedication, leadership, and commitment to students led to his appointment as Head Teacher in 2015—a role he continues to hold today.

Under his leadership, Gracious has earned a strong reputation for outstanding science results on national examinations, consistently performing well above the national average. His classes often include up to 75 students, yet students remain motivated and grateful for the opportunity to learn in a supportive, high-quality academic environment.

Today, Gracious serves approximately 650 students, including 154 orphans whose tuition and lunch are covered by Malawi Children’s Village. The school is recognized not only for academic excellence, but also for its strong culture and dedicated faculty.

Recent donor support has transformed campus life:
🏠 Eight faculty duplexes have eliminated staff turnover, ending long daily bicycle commutes from Mangochi town
🏫 The Visionary Girls Dormitory, opened in 2025, now houses 120 girls, giving them safety, stability, and time to focus on friendships, homework, and dreams—rather than long commutes and heavy household chores

đź’› Leaders like Mr. Kapito make lasting impact possible. Thank you for supporting the educators who are shaping the next generation.

Educating Girls. Changing Futures.

Traditionally, girls in Malawi carried the weight of the household—cooking over open fires, collecting wood and water, washing clothes, and caring for younger siblings. Even when they attended school, their education came second, often without a quiet place to study.

Malawi Children’s Village is helping change that reality.

Because secondary school in Malawi requires tuition, MCV covers all fees for orphans. At Gracious Secondary School, enrollment is now evenly split between girls and boys among more than 600 students—a powerful shift toward equity.

Through the school’s WE Club, girls are excelling academically, ranking in the top ten of their classes across all grade levels. Forty of these high-achieving students now live in a new girls’ dormitory on scholarships provided by the MCV Board of Directors—giving them safety, stability, and time to focus on learning.

MCV also provides sanitary pads to all girls, eliminating monthly absences and helping students stay in school consistently.

Today, these young women are dreaming bigger—of continuing their education, building careers, and shaping their own futures.

đź’› When girls are supported, communities are transformed.
