Living in Alaska comes with a daily reminder of how powerful and beautiful nature can be.
This World Environment Day, let’s take action to protect it. Our beautiful state deserves more than just appreciation, it deserves action.

This year, United Way of Anchorage is celebrating volunteerism by connecting with Anchorage Downtown Partnership, Ltd. to engage our community at the Summer Solstice Festival on June 20th!

Through this partnership, volunteers can take action to support a community event that brings people together in the heart of downtown and enjoy the sunny weather, too!

We are incredibly grateful to First National Bank Alaska and President & CEO Betsy Lawer, along with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, for their combined $175,000 contribution to United Way of Anchorage.

These funds support our Eviction Diversion program and Alaska 211, two of the most direct ways we help Anchorage families remain in stable housing and connected to resources when they need it most. For too many households in our community, a single unexpected crisis can put stable housing at risk. This investment helps families stay in their homes. And when families don't know where to turn, Alaska 211 is a free, confidential resource connecting Alaska residents to the right help at the right time.

This is exactly the kind of partnership that creates lasting impact, helping families stay housed and advancing our broader work in financial security, youth opportunity, and a healthy community. First National Bank Alaska has been one of our most enduring partners, and this generous gift reflects a deep commitment to Anchorage that spans our entire 70 years. Thank you, Betsy, and the entire First National Bank Alaska team.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the service members who gave their lives to protect our country. Their sacrifice is a powerful reminder of the strength, courage, and the selflessness that shape our communities.

People volunteer for many reasons, but at the heart of it lies a simple desire: to connect and care for their community. When asked why they show up, one volunteer said it best: “It needs doing.” And that’s what volunteers do, they show up, they connect, and they help build a stronger community for everyone.

Reminder: the Alaska Native Heritage Center is hosting a free Community Gathering event for residents displaced by Typhoon Halong on Sunday, May 17th from 1-6PM at the Fairview Rec Center.

✨🦭 Join us next Sunday, May 17th, to process and take home seal meat from Southeast Alaska!

The Alaska Native Heritage Center (ANHC) is hosting our next free Community Gathering on Sunday, May 17th from 1-6PM at the Fairview Rec Center. This event is exclusively for Western Alaska residents who relocated to Anchorage after Typhoon Halong.

These gatherings will be held twice monthly to provide a space for individuals to connect, enjoy a shared meal, and to participate in cultural activities. Please see the flyer for additional dates throughout the year.

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) kitchen staff are donating two seal carcasses, generously provided by George and Frank Nix of Klawock, for Sunday, May 17th's program. Participants are invited to gather, process the meat and bones (the fur has already been removed), and take these traditional foods home with them. Quyana (thank you, Yup’ik) to the ANTHC team for supporting community connection through traditional foods.

There will also be opportunities to use the basketball court, weight room, reading nook, and kids’ indoor gym. Please check in at the front desk for access.
