Anchorage Waterways Council Protecting, restoring, and enhancing the waterways and wetlands of Anchorage through education, outreach, and action.

Anchorage Waterways Council is a 501(c)3 non-profit NGO membership organization whose mission is to protect, restore, and enhance the waterways, wetlands, and associated uplands of Anchorage. Our members believe that environmentally healthy watersheds are a vital part of the high quality of life that we enjoy in Anchorage. We also believe that the beautiful creeks of Anchorage need a group specifi

cally dedicated to advocating for their health and well being. We work with a large and diverse group of partners including federal and state resource agencies, local government, the business community, and individual citizens to improve the watershed environment through planning, advocacy, education, and science.

Altogether, dozens of bags full of dog p**p and other waste were removed from our beloved local parks. Today is World Water Day!

Water connects us all, and having access to safe, clean water is not only a basic human need but also a cornerstone for building healthier communities and fostering social, economic, and environmental equality. This year's theme, Water and Gender, highlights the fact that where people lack access to safe, clean water, inequalities flourish, often with women and girls bearing the brunt. Oftentimes, the responsibility for collecting and managing water, as well as caring for those who become sick from unsafe water, falls disproportionately on women. Today, millions of people still face barriers to reliable access to clean water. This year’s World Water Day urges governments, organizations, and individuals to support initiatives that improve water infrastructure, foster equality, and safeguard this vital resource - for everyone.

World Water Day celebrates water and inspires action to tackle the global water crisis. On World Water Day 2026, we will explore the critical relationship between water, women, and gender equality.
