Knights of Columbus 12290

Knights of Columbus 12290 Council 12290 is located at St. Benedict Parish in Anchorage Alaska. Our St. Benedict's Council #12290 was founded in 1998

Our primary mission is to serve our parish and local community through selfless acts of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic fraternal service organization. Founded in the United States in 1882, it is named in honor of Christopher Columbus. There are more than 1.8 million members in 15,000 councils, with nearly 200 councils on college c

ampuses. Membership is limited to "practical Catholic" men aged 18 or older. Councils have been chartered in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Guatemala, Panama, Dominican Republic, the Philippines, Guam, Spain, Japan, Cuba, and most recently in Poland. The Knights' official junior organization, the Columbian Squires, has over 5,000 Circles. All the Order's ceremonials and business meetings are restricted to members, though all other events are open to the public.

Leading up to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, the U.S. bishops will consecrate the nation to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 11, the eve of the solemnity of the Sacred Heart. Beginning today, Knights and their families are encouraged to pray a novena that concludes June 11. Visit kofc.org/america250 to learn more.

Archbishop Alexander Sample of Portland, Oregon, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee for Religious Liberty and a longtime Knight, recently spoke with Columbia about devotion to the Sacred Heart, the upcoming consecration of the United States and the role of religious liberty in American society. “Our hope is that greater charity will be exercised throughout our country, and that in the heart of Christ we will rediscover the unity that seems to be slipping away from us in today’s divisive culture,” he said. “That in the heart of Christ we will find ourselves to be friends again, even with those with whom we disagree.”
