The largest statewide Native organization in Alaska, the Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) represents more than 140,000 Native peoples – about one out of every five Alaskans. Formed in 1966 to settle land claims, AFN continues to be the principal forum and voice of Alaska Natives in addressing critical issues of public policy and government. Its membership includes 175 federally recognized tribes

, 155 village corporations, 11 regional corporations, and 12 regional nonprofit and tribal consortiums that contract and compact to run federal and state programs. AFN is governed by a 38-member board, which is elected by its membership at the annual convention held each October. AFN's mission is to enhance and promote the cultural, economic and political voice of the entire Alaska Native community.

We want to hear directly from Alaska Native hunters, fishers, gatherers, Tribes, and community members about your experiences, priorities, and vision for the future of subsistence in Alaska.

Your voice matters. What you share will help inform AFN’s Subsistence Strategic Action Plan and our work to strengthen Alaska Native subsistence rights, culture, food security, and self-determination.

The Alaska Federation of Natives is hosting our Guided by Community Voices: Subsistence Listening Sessions in Kodiak today, August 21.

We invite Tribal leaders, Elders, subsistence harvesters, youth, natural resource staff, community leaders, and community members to join us and share your experiences, concerns, priorities, and vision for the future of subsistence.

AFN is traveling across Alaska to listen directly to communities. These sessions are an opportunity to help identify the issues and values that should guide future discussions about subsistence management.

Find Your Polling Location: Your Election Day polling location is based on your registered voting address.

Rural Alaskans deserve reliable access to the ballot.

With the August 18 Primary Election just one day away, the Alaska Federation of Natives, Cook Inlet Tribal Council, First Alaskans Institute, and Get Out the Native Vote are calling on the Alaska Division of Elections to take immediate action on rural precinct staffing and election access.

Reports of vacant election-worker positions, delayed per diem payments, and disruptions to early voting raise serious concerns about whether every rural community will have the support it needs to conduct the election.

In Nome, for example, the Division of Elections’ regional office was not open at the advertised 10 a.m. start time for early voting.

"Every community matters. Every voter matters. Every vote deserves to be administered with fairness, reliability, and respect."
