Japan Alaska Association - アラスカ日本人会 In 2016, The Japan Alaska Association renewed its mission and organization structure as a 501(c)3 non-profit.

The Japan Alaska Association was formerly known as the Japanese Society of Alaska, certified as a 501(c)4 non-profit organization by the State of Alaska on June 28th, 1988. The JAA mission is to provide opportunities to develop friendly relations and mutual understanding between Japanese people and the residents of Alaska; and to contribute to International Friendship between Japan and the United States. Any person that wants to promote the learning, sharing and celebration of Japanese culture and traditions in Alaska is welcome to join our membership.

This year is the 30th anniversary of Michio Hoshino’s passing. Hoshino was a well-known photographer who captured the beauty of Alaska and lost his life in a bear attack in Kamchatka. At this event, Hiroshi Isobe—an actor and narrator based in Japan—will present the Alaska premiere of Majestic Nature of Alaska, a production created using only Hoshino’s photographs and words, with Isobe himself providing the narration with English subtitles.

The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) training vessels JS KASHIMA and JS YAMAGIRI will make a port call in Anchorage from September 23–26 as part of their 161-day overseas training cruise.
To celebrate their visit, the JMSDF Training Squadron Band will hold a special concert in Anchorage!
📅 Thursday, September 24th | 6:00–7:00 p.m.
📍 Dimond High School Auditorium
The concert is free and open to the public. Please see the flyer for details.

今回の寄港を記念し、練習艦隊音楽隊による特別コンサートを開催します！

From all of us at the Japan Alaska Association, thank you to everyone who joined us for this year's Summer Festival!

Whether you came for the performances, delicious food, amazing vendors, cultural exhibits, or simply to spend the day with friends and family, you helped make this festival truly special. Seeing our community come together to celebrate Japanese culture is what this event is all about.

A heartfelt thank you to our volunteers, performers, vendors, sponsors, and everyone who worked behind the scenes to make today possible. We truly couldn't have done it without you.

Thank you for supporting the Japan Alaska Association. We hope you made wonderful memories, and we look forward to celebrating with you again soon!
