A volunteer from Wells Fargo joined Food Bank of Alaska staff for a recent senior box build, helping pack boxes of nutritious food for older Alaskans.

Senior box builds are a regular part of the work happening in our warehouse each month, bringing staff and volunteers side by side to help make sure food gets where it needs to go.

It’s the final day of Food Waste Prevention Week! 🥕♻️

This year’s theme, Food Heroes in Your Neighborhood, celebrates the everyday habits that help keep good food from going to waste.

We’re especially into this year’s Food Heroes, illustrated by Alaska artist Robert Schrooten for Food Waste Prevention Week. 🤎

Maybe you’re:

🍽️ Anchorage Restaurant Week is coming October 22-29!

So, how does it work?

1. Pick a participating restaurant.
2. Go out to eat during Anchorage Restaurant Week.
3. Look for how that restaurant is participating. Some will feature a special menu item or donate a portion of certain sales, while others will give you an easy way to donate directly to Food Bank of Alaska.

That’s it. Eat local, support Anchorage restaurants, and help provide food for Alaskans facing food insecurity.

Right now, 1 in 6 Alaskans faces food insecurity. This October, your plans for lunch, dinner, dessert, or drinks can help make a difference.

The October free food distribution schedule is live! 🎃 👻

Food Bank of Alaska’s network of mobile pantries and partner distribution sites across Anchorage and the Mat-Su are ready to welcome you.

Whether you’re looking for food for your household or sharing this resource with someone you know, the calendar makes it easy to see what’s available and when.

Food Bank of Alaska will be closed Monday, Oct. 12, in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Partner site schedules may vary. Please check the calendar before heading out, as schedules may change.

One thing at a time, you made a difference this Hunger Action Month. 🧡

You wore orange and joined us at Business After Hours, co-hosted by Northern Air Cargo and the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce. At the event, Crowley Fuels Alaska presented a $75,000 gift to support Food Bank of Alaska’s work.

The Anchorage Assembly recognized Hunger Action Month with a proclamation. Food vouchers helped neighbors purchase fresh food at Grow North Farm, and our Youth Ambassadors shared what they learned while “Following the Food” as volunteers at Food Bank of Alaska.

Our community also met Crowley Fuels Alaska’s separate $10,000 matching challenge and gave another $7,550! Including the match, that campaign means more than 55,000 meals for Alaskans facing food insecurity right now. 🥹🍽️

This month, we welcomed 62 new volunteers and 17 first-time donors. Five supporters also signed up to give monthly!

October brings Anchorage Restaurant Week, Oct. 22-29, and preparations for Thanksgiving Blessing to serve 11,000 families.

Today is Hunger Action Day. 🧡

Thanks to supporters who have given toward Hunger Action Month, Food Bank of Alaska has already unlocked more than half of Crowley Fuels Alaska’s $10,000 match.

Now, $4,500 remains.
