Our clinic will be closed Thursday, October 15th, for an all-staff training day.

We believe ongoing training and professional development are essential to providing the highest quality of care to our military community, veterans, and their families. Taking time to learn and grow together helps us continue to better serve those who trust us with their care.

If you need immediate crisis support, the Veterans Crisis Line is available 24/7 by dialing 988, then press 1.

We will resume regular clinic hours on Friday October 16th.

**What can you see? πŸ‘€ What can you hear? πŸ‘‚ What can you smell? πŸ‘ƒ What can you taste? πŸ‘… What can you feel? βœ‹**

Sometimes, taking care of our mental health looks a lot less like sitting in an office and a lot more like learning how to keep our cool when our little brother/sister is bothering us.

We were so excited to join the ASYMCA for their annual Winter Gear Up at JBER again this year.

Our Cohen Clinic team brought along an interactive 5 Senses Table, where military families could explore their five senses and learn how using them can help us ground ourselves when emotions start getting BIG.

And the kids were ALL about it.

We talked about what happens in our bodies when we're angry, frustrated, overwhelmed, or upset and practiced simple sensory strategies that can help us pause before we yell, snap, or lose our cool.

Even better? Every child got to take home their very own sensory kit to use when they need a little help getting grounded.

Because learning emotional regulation doesn't have to be boring. Sometimes it's hands-on, fun, a little silly and something you can actually use when your sibling steals your favorite snack.

A huge thank you to the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska for inviting us to be part of such a fun event and for sponsoring the sensory kits for military families!

We're proud to be out in the community helping military-connected families build skills for big feelings, one little moment at a time.

Many people avoid conversations about fi***rm safety because they're worried they'll say the wrong thing.

But when fi***rms are involved in most veteran su***de deaths, these conversations are too important to avoid.

You don't need the perfect words.

A common myth is that talking about su***de puts the idea into someone's head. Research suggests that asking about su***de does not cause or increase suicidal thoughts. Instead, asking directly can help someone in pain feel seen, supported, and connected.

Don't let fear stop you from reaching out.

It's normal to feel nervous about bringing up difficult topics.

But after a tragedy, people often wish they had reached out, checked in, or asked one more question. Don't let fear of saying the wrong thing stop you from showing someone you care.

If you're concerned about someone, trust your instincts and start the conversation. You don't need the perfect words or all the answers. Ask Anyway.

Asking a caring question and showing compassion can help someone feel seen and less alone.

β€’ "You've seemed stressed lately. How are you doing?"
β€’ "I care about you. Can we talk?"
β€’ "Are you thinking about su***de?"
